A variation on the recent bat guitar. Maple and walnut neck with walnut wings. Still deciding on the body cap wood. 4 strings. Tele uke bridge.

5 neck strips. Maple is 8mm and walnut is 9mm. Rough outline of the body, neck and inclined headstock.

Stacked on the bench top and glued with 16d nails lining everything up until the clamps are on the the glue takes a set. Then the nails in the ends were pulled.

Truss rod slot routed. Going to access it from the headstock.

    Cut the fretboard to width.

Have always struggled with thicknessing necks on neck-throughs. Came up with a way today. Clamped to the fence with 16mm between fence and blade. Raised the blade while running. Moved the neck forward and repeated. Worked ok. A bit burned from the saw but that will all get shaped and sanded away. Lowered the body 1/4" using the same method to accommodate the spalted maple cap that will be placed.

I thickness my necks on neck throughs using a saf-t-planer in the drill press. Works wonders. I also have a very large drill press table, like 20x30 or so.

Inspired by Helmut's homemade abalone dots, I thought I'd try homemade brass dots to go along with the gold hardware. Found 3/16" brass rod at the hardware store. Cut off 1/8" dot and stuck it in. This is on rosewood and ebony scraps.

    Interesting...
How do you want to tune it? CGDA, DGBE, GDAE?

Brass dots on the fretboard face and side. Tried to cut the dots the same thickness but adjusted the depth of each hole for each dot. Worked out well.

Gluing on the manta's black walnut wings. Fins? Flippers? Furbs? What does a manta have? Anyone remember Chickenman? "With one blow from his mighty furb!"

What the ... what ? Never heard of it, lol.

Looks cool to me though! Looking around at the different tunings for a 4 string (I think I would want to try all of them), I came across this, which would be a worthy mod :p
