I played it 55 years ago when I was a 10 year old kid. Now I forget the rules. Good Game.

Mom played when I was small. I found the tiles fascinating but never learned.
I bought a set in the mid80s but never learned. I have no idea where it got off to
I played a computer version of solitaire that was interesting but haven’t in years

My wife and I play sometimes. I started with the Shanghai computer game (which is the Mah-jong "Solitaire" game) on trans-Atlantic flights and then we started on the real thing... although we are very far from expert it's an enjoyable game. More likely to play on winter evenings than now though.

We have a nice traditional set and a modern redesigned one.

My wife and her extended family all play so we do have the game.
Well, she's Filipina so that's explains that. :)

I'm not much into board games other than scrabble on rare occasions so I never learned mahjong.

    Have a great day....

Played lots as a kid with our family. I introduced it to my teen step-daughters 20 years ago, but have not played since. I enjoy it more than other board games.

The sound of mahjong is one thing that always makes me nostalgic and sort of homesick from when I lived in San Francisco.

My girlfriend lived in an apartment across the street from Golden Gate Park, and on nights that it wasn't freezing cold we'd have the back windows open. There was another nearby apartment from which we always heard a group of elderly Chinese ladies talking and laughing well into the night, accompanied with the distinctive sound of the mahjong tiles clacking. It always made us smile because it sounded like they were having such a great time.

I often wish I never left San Francisco, and that feeling comes flooding back whenever I hear those tiles clacking.

Never played , but I have a set from 1920, all ivory in a leather box, that my Great Uncle brought back from China, along with a Mah Jong book signed, dated and given to my Great Aunt. He was a Tea Merchant and spent a lot of time over there. Later in life he was a model for Old Grandad Whiskey! (The old white haired guy sitting in a study with a glass of whiskey)

My wife plays along with a group of women and a couple of bottles of wine.

She and I have been playing Mexican Train lately.

    • I don't play, but I used to jokingly call my mother Ma Jong. I don't know how it started - we aren't Asian. I hadn't thought about that in a long time until this thread reminded me of it.
