LP Junior Cherry Red Finish

    I am making one of these for a friend. The body will be mahogany. He wants the finish fairly true to the original, cherry red finish.

    Does anyone have a specific dye or toner recipe for this? There are plenty of awesome examples of other red, mahogany, or cherry recipes, but I'm looking specifically for something close to the LP Jr (58/59 if it matters).

    Dan Erlewine also has recipes in his book on guitar finishing but it sounds like you've got what you need.

    I've used Mohawk brand Tone Finish Toner :).

    Specifically, the Medium Red Shading Mahogany item #M101-0386

    It matches up real well to the Gibson color on mahogany and it's cheap too; I paid about $6 or $7 bucks a can from Klingspor's Woodworking Shop ;).

    Their blonde toner works excellent to match up to Fender's blonde as well.
