Bump.. Worth it for the GTR solo alone, but it's a killer song too.

If you want non stupid, great love songs look no further than the master of writing and signing them, Bob Marley; Waiting In Van, Stir it Up, Mellow Mood, Turn Your Lights Down Low, High Tide, Is this Love, Baby We've Got a Date, Satisfy My Soul and so many more.

Love songs are tricky, ranging from the beautifully romantic to embarrassing schmaltz.

Four beautifully written love songs: Every time We Say Goodbye (preferably sung by Ella), First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (Roberta Flack), Stardust (sung by just about anyone) and Something by George Harrison. Don't get me started on the other stuff.

"This is where i want to be:
here, with you so close to me
until the final flicker of life's ember.
I, who was lost and lonely,
    believing life was only
    a bitter, tragic joke
    have found with you
    the meaning of existence,
    oh my love."

IMO "Don't Get Me Wrong" by the Pretenders perfectly captures the thrill of romantic infatuation.

This is an example of the kind of song I'll try to sing for my wife when we have a few friends over with a few guitars and a few drinks.

This one has the advantage of having a big chorus which everyone round here knows (the Franks are a local band) so at least I get a bit of backup after murdering the verses.

Might seem random, but Phil Collins brought me to tears the other night.

    "Against all odds"

What a song... Check this live aid version. He messes up a chord and laughs it off. Makes it even better. Sorry to bring up technique, but his voice in the chorus is so perfect, like a nice amp slightly breaking up but under control. Man he could write songs, play and sing.
