One of the best American bands of my lifetime. Just fabulous musicianship, and a great live show (saw them at the Vogue in the Indy, and the lead playing was ferocious and face melting- one of the best guitar nerd shows I've ever seen.

I think they also have something to say. I'm typically not much of a lyrics guy, but this one seems as relevant now as it did in 1987, when I was 17:

The best band in this country for a long time.

That's an interesting question, and one with no wrong or right answer. I wouldn't argue with anyone who went with Los Lobos. Wilco occurs to me as a candidate, and I feel like I'm probably forgetting about a million others.

David Hidalgo's playing/phrasing/tones are tremendous and tremendously under rated.

    Love the band to bits.

Sign me up! In the past couple years I saw them 5-6 times at the beach, in a small club, the Mountain Winery, the Fillmore. Give me the club! Well... eventually, you know.. (cough)

I saw them play at a free outdoor festival. I had never heard of them but a friend told me to catch their show.
I was close enough to lean on the stage.
    Woo-hoo, what a show!

Saw them live in a bar, The Blue Cafe in Long Beach. Posted it here many times before. Not only that it was a private party. They rocked, we rocked. Awesome stuff. Some girl named Shemekia Copeland opened for them.....

I love these guys. Back in '87 or so, they were doing a sound check before a show at Pearl Street, a club I worked in in Northampton, MA. I happened to pop in just as they were all set up. They started fooling around, jamming a bit then they launched into a seemingly spontaneous medley of classic songs, playing Beatles, Cream, Hendrix, Allman Bros, others, I can't remember. Every one was an astonishingly accurate cover; I was completely blown away.

I’ve seen them 18-20 times starting with their first national tour.

I’ve seen them completely acoustic in front of 50 people on the Detroit River banks , doing a Peter Green F Mac medley in a small club, in a tent in Ypsilanti running through a bunch of Neil Young , drunk as skunks on the last night of a tour just goofing around making tunes up and laughing and laughing.

Last time I saw them they were opening for Boz Skaggs and they came out right at 7 in a pavilion/shed. I went to see them not Boz.

Most of the crowd thought “oh - the La Bamba guys - I didn’t know they were still around...”

They did a tight one hour festival set and the crowd was blown away.
Masterful tune selection, they kept it moving and got a raucous standing O. As a longtime fan I felt weirdly proud (like I had anything to do with it !):lol:

Kiko is one of my top 5 albums. This one gets bonus points for being in Nacho Libre.

Love the barking dogs in the middle of this one. And Cougar Estrada is such a bada$$.

Kiko is a great album -- not your typical mainstream album, but a great one!
