While I have heard all of the advice that a looper pedal is one of the best practice tools, I've never really considered one until yesterday. Yesterday I learned to play "Gold on the Ceiling" and realized that I really need a looper to be able to layer in key parts of the song.

Just need something basic. I'll probably never use more than one loop. Needs to be simple and intuitive, or I will likely never use it. No real budget, but would obviously rather spend less if it works the same.

I use the Nu-X Drum and Loop Pro. It’s maybe $150-ish? I use it like a notebook for song ideas and learning. It holds about 6 hours of recording. It has a couple dozen drum beats and you can layer guitars, bass or other. It’s pretty easy to use. I have a small home studio but the Nu-X gets all the use because I can get rough ideas recorded and tweek them before spending time pugging things in to an interface. I just keep it connected to my practice amp.

I have a Kokko sos flp2 looper I bought $35 new on 'zon a while back. It's the same as a Ditto mini, probably the same factory (Nux). Get that or equivalent. Simple looper, handles ten minutes if you want. Get two if you want the bigger two button loopers, cheaper and more versatile. Keep simple at first. Starting and stopping the loop takes practice.

Justin guitar channel has a good how to looper.

Also useful to see the Gear Rundown of the artist that wrote the 'horse and cherry tree' song.

I tried a couple of different loopers but really needed something idiot-proof. Finally got the Donner Triple Looper off Amazon for about $85. Did it for me - and the price is good.

I'd recommend a used Digitech Jamman solo XT. But it's not really simple – you have to invest a good chunk of a day learning how to use it.

My take is that if you buy a simple blooper, you will quickly realize why you want a more capable blooper. MHO.

For simple, inexpensive looping, the Ditto gets a lot of praise.

I prefer the simple original type Ditto loopers. I've tried some others but the Ditto are reliable and easy to use. Not all are. I use them in live duo performance too.
$40 and up used, $99 new now. They were $69 when I bought mine.

I have a Digitech Jam man Express I picked up, it's more difficult to use than the Ditto. Very touchy about tapping to clear or next loop.

I really like this combo, a Boss RC-5 with an A/B pedal (although you can do the same thing with the cheaper and simpler RC-1). The looper is very easy (especially the RC-1) and having the attached pedal allows for lots of very easy control over the pedal with lots of options for what the “A” and “B” can do (e.g. start loop, start overdub, end loop but keep loop playing, end loop and stop, erase overdub, etc.) Very easy and quality enough to incorporate into live performance (I just did it last night) and won’t break the bank. The RC-5 is more $$, but also includes a huge memory bank, drum tracks, etc. For simple looping the RC-1 is great.

I've got the Boss Loop Station RC-1. They make more complicated versions with lots more options, but the simple one is perfect for my needs. I did add a homemade control accessory pedal for starts and stops. It's a clone of their FS-7 which isn't expensive, but the clone was literally an hour long project with parts I mostly had on hand
Great looper with a ring of LEDs to let you know where you are in the loop. You can layer overtop or just do simple chord and lead type things. Also A and B input/output so you could do a bass line or other instrument into a separate amp.
RC-1 is about $120
FS-7 is about $70 (a nice addition - not necessary)
A couple cables needed ~$20

For simple and cheap, you can't go wrong with the Lekato Looper. The loop ring display is great and it's one of the few single button loopers you can record and then change parts without stopping.

At the high end is the Aeros, more looper than you'll ever need.

Digitech loopers were great in their day but a bit dated and there are better pedals. Will be interesting if they remake/update them.

I'm fond of the basic Ditto Looper: it does the trick if you're after simplicity and sound quality, IMHO.

Yes, my basic ditto looper (the old one without the display), 2nd hand, is great, I think.
I’ve also got a Boss RC-1 which is also great, and the stereo in/out is really useful.
It’s one of those things that the simpler the better, I reckon 🙂

I’ve been using a Ditto Looper for 7-8 years and I’ve been very happy with it. Super simple and seemingly durable given how much I use it.

this one I found on Amazon, and santa brought it home for me , 10 loops of stereo 10 minute loops each , this works great easy to use and not expensive , and you can multi track the loops . I love this thing 109.00 CDN Easy to use
it has feature like 1/2 speed, and reverse looping

I have a Boss looper that I have never gotten comfortable with for some reason. But I bought a TC Electronics Flashback delay pedal, and it has a looper setting. It is super easy to use. That was a nice accidental surprise!

Haven't heard of. Can it take two/stereo inputs?

Edit: looks like it can. That's pretty neat for the cost.

I have the TC Flashback myself - I didn't know it had a looper until I received it

It's not a super-duper looper, but it's still 40 seconds of loop time - and stereo, too

Enough for my purposes :)

Set yourself up for success by getting something at least reasonably nice. The EHX 720 is excellent. I LOVE mine. Give yourself the convenience of a separate stop switch at least. The sound quality of this unit is awesome as well. This thing enlivened my musical doings incalculably about four or so years ago. You can play along, build tracks, even compose entire songs like a linear recorder. You have 12 minutes! Not sure they still make them but am confident they can be had reasonably. Best pedal purchase I have ever made, at least as far as how much I use it.

it can take 2 guitar inputs at one time or one stereo in, and unlimited overdubs per track, and record 10 minute tracks for loops, I use mine with my synths to create atmospheres that I can jam over ( it does not come with a wall wart so you will have to sus one out.
but 9volt negative tip WW's are every where.)
