I'm not looking for the kind of auto-wah that is triggered by pick attack (which I would call an envelope filter), but the kind that has a continuous oscillation like a chorus, or flanger would have. I only know of 3 options for this:

Boss AW-3 Dynamic Wah
Boss AW-2 Auto-Wah
Mooer Funky Monkey

There have to be more out there to choose from. Any pedal people out there have a line on some that I can add to my list for comparison? Right now I'm leaning toward the Mooer, as it sounded (in the few demos I've heard) more like an authentic Cry Baby type of wah sound. Any others?

The aw3 is a totally underrated pedal. It’s relatively intuitive and the tap function is wonderful. That’s my experience anyway.

But are those auto wahs triggered by attack like an envelope filter would be? I thought that was what differentiated an auto wah from an envelope filter, on is cyclic the other is triggered.

This thread made me go look for a vid of the Funky Monkey.

I've been happy with the Mooer Trelicopter tremolo despite my usual distaste for tiny pedals. After watching that video (before it even ended actually) I had a Funky Monkey on order. Hard to beat $40 for the sounds I was hearing.

I've owned the AW-3, twice. I actually loved it, except for one thing: it cuts alot of low end. But it does perfectly what you're looking for.

It's not as bad through the bass input. I use mine after distortion. Love it!

I particularly liked the segments where he used it as just another modulation effect. Finally, modulation that I didn't hate the sound of. This might be the one I go for, as well.

This is the best one I've found, by far, but at nearly $250-300 it is far beyond my price range. It's pretty cool, though.

This is a pretty cool one called the Jacques Trinity Wah. It does Enveolpe, Auto Wah, and classic wah (via an expression 'bulb' ?). This guy won't lay off the bulb much, even on the 'auto' parts, so it's hard to tell how the oscillating effect really sounds. The V1 of this pedal is closer to a reasonable price. If they priced it lower, and just had the auto-wah...I don't know. Still lookin'

This is the last one that I've managed to find, and I could probably get it for my price range. However, it is a huge pedalboard hog, and it sounds very 'unnatural'. I think the Mooer Funky Monkey sounds like a more natural wah. This is a terrible demo. The only setting that sounds close to useful, on the dial, is the 'classic wah' setting, but he breezes past it pretty quickly, and it still sounds very 'digital'. Still lookin'

My favorite is Josh Wah by Broughton. The controls make sense for my needs and the gain can add hair if you need it.

I was just looking into that effect recently. I decided I was looking for more of a synth pedal. But I was looking at this guy.

Pretty cool sounding, but I'm actually looking for one with a rate control. More of an LFO oscillating effect rather than an envelope filter. It is a cool envelope filter, though.
Cool. My actual plan B is a Source Audio C4. I love the envelope in it, it’s actually the same as their Spectrum pedal. I use a foot rocker for manual wah with it sometimes. But the catch is you’d have to be willing to spend time learning the app. It’s not pluggy play like some. Good luck, it’s all preference.

I did try that, it wasn't good enough. I ended up with a Lovepedal Rubber Chicken, which is AWESOME- drops no low end, and sounds more like a wah than an envelope filter. But it's doesn't do the task the OP is looking for.

Although it's not what I'm looking for now, I did own the 4 knob Rubber Chicken for a while, and it's fantastic! Best of breed when it comes to an envelope filter. It did not screw with my tone at all. I can't say enough good things about it, but yeah, not what I'm looking for, currently. :)
