If you have an onboard spring reverb and would like to bring on the drip for surf stuff this will help a lot on account of the tone knob. It's a good delay too.

Hey guys. I’m looking for a delay for my board. I don’t use it a whole lot. But have been in situations where I’d like to have one. Mostly a slapback. Maybe a little more time.

Seeing I don’t use it a lot. I don’t want to spend a whole lot. But still want something reliable.

What are your recommendations?
Well…there are several options that you could consider. I’m sure most of them are already on the list. If you want a descent reliable pedal, you should definitely spend more than $27.98 for whatever Donner is calling their delay nowadays. However, I would recommend the MXR Carbon Copy. It’s a good solid analog delay. I’m sure it’s been mentioned here already. Another one you could consider is the new Maestro Discoverer Delay. This is an interesting pedal, but definitely one you should at to the list of considerations. It’s analog, but it’s just enough different from the average delay to make it something else. Also, this particular delay is THICK. Like seriously thick compared to most delays. You could also consider the Wampler Etherial(I think that’s what it was called) it has a delay and spring reverb built in. Also, EJx stuff is usually good and they have at least 2 delays I can think of. Just my suggestions. Also don’t forget the Fender Hammertone series of pedals. I’m sure they have a delay somewhere in that line. They are a great pedal for the price. I have their reverb pedal. It’s pretty darn good for what it is.

I currently have four delay pedals on two separate boards: Boss DD-3T and DM-2w on one board, and an MXR Carbon Copy Mini, and a Hardwire DL-8 on the other. Unlike most people, I prefer the sound of an analog delay. Purely for the sound, I like the CC Mini (with the bright switch on) best. For all of the settings/options, I like the DL-8 best. But, they're all good.

Here's the best bang for your buck :

TC electronics Bucket Brigade : basically a MXR Carbon Copy clone , with a better buffered bypass , tonewise the first repeats are a bit clearer : can be found for 50$ these days .

Moval Falling Star : EHX Deluxe Memory Man clone for 35 $ : yes please ! It's just as good as the EHX XO re-issues

This site’s dangerous. Just ordered one (Movall), thought it sounds pretty good.

DD-3 user here, since 1988. If you want more features, DD-7 does everything the DD-3 does, plus longer digi delays, analog, modulated and reverse

Got the Falling Star. Serious wobble but a nice analog-y delay without, I like just a pinch of modulation. Heard there’s an input gain knob on the inside. May mess with it soon, but already has a slight volume bump, don’t want to get too overdriven. So far, so good. 6 day delivery (from China? Couldn’t be could it?) and sounds pretty tasty to me. Wish we’d had more like this when I was coming up.

Yea I saw that one. But if I’m getting one. I rather not just a one trick pony.
Look for a used Timeline.
I've had some of the others mentioned.
Sold them off but kept the TL.
Its not that hard to use, once you get used to it.
I've had mine since they first came out.
Super reliable, too.

If anyone is interested, opened up the FS to see about that input gain (wasn’t there 😢) and lo and behold what I could see was a Caline chip (? May have been a group in a small box, but clearly labeled Caline AP 30). Not that I care, pedal sounds nice but the modulation gets a bit seasick for my tastes. Still, $30 shipped…..
