    Greetings pedal owners,

I am currently looking for a preamp that mimics the Binson Echorec. I have watched That Pedal Show and it does sound massive. Take it easy on me as I am a noob to guitar!

    Sincerely,

    Lodexo

No experience on the matter, but I don't blame you for wanting one after watching that episode. :D

    Welcome!

Perhaps... I know the Catalinbread is a popular choice. I heard they got the preamp down pat!

I believe that's base on the echoplex ep-3. But looks great!

I wonder if the Catalinbread Belle Epoch Deluxe Tape Echo Pedal might be a better choice. I have the Dunlap Echoplex Delay Pedal, and I like it very much for its tape-style echo sound (and the crazy "landing the UFO" effects when the repeats go into self-oscillation mode), but I assume you'd be hitting your rig with a double pre-amp, if you have both the Echoplex Delay Pedal and the Echoplex Preamp Pedal on. At least with the Belle Epoch, both the delay and the pre-amp are in the same pedal.

I have looked at the Dawn Prince! Gilmourish is where I found that. I have been thinking about saving for a POMPEII PE603, but those are expensive too. I just want a "massive sounding" preamp reminiscent to the Binson Echorec. I also love the effects of the unit itself, but my logic was getting a Binson Echorec preamp into a Strymon Volante. I would be content with that!

This was going to be my suggestion too. This pedal has been on my wish list for a long time.

the real Binson has a tube preamp. there are lots of pedals that simulate the tape echo.

Mic & Dan on That Pedal Show did a thing on the real one & compared it with a few stomp boxes. but not the Strymon ElCapistan, which is the one I've been thinking about for the last 6 months or so

I use a Timmy in front of a Volante as a preamp, sometimes after it to smear the repeats even further. Covers a lot of things as far as preamps go.

On my basic/roots board I have a Nocturne Mystery Brain, which has a switchable Roland Space Echo 301 preamp and it's always on. I also owned the Catlinbread Echorec (awesome) and El Cap, and a few Atomic Brains, running the Brain first in the signal, except for fuzz. Nocturne also makes just the preamp (Dynobrain). It's not an Echorec but it does give 'more' of everything. Also look at Xotic's EP Booster..

I will look into all the gear you have listed! Thank you for suggesting a Timmy and never heard about Atomics Brains!
