Man...this has really caused me to reconsider whether those mushroom thingys may bring those vivid hallucinations after all.

Loved the liverwurst with the fat ring around it as a kid. Can't find that anymore. My grocery has braunschweiger and it's good but not that old school liverwurst.

My French Canadian mother used to make a goose liver pate', she called it (phonetic spelling) "gore-tone". It was tasty stuff on toast, crackers, whatever. Nowadays, with my cholesterol issues, I must avoid such things. Most lunch meats, sausages, and the like are all high cholesterol. Bummer.

My dad loved liverwurst and braunschweiger (my mom put up with it) and so as a little kid growing up all the way through high school and leaving home, I ate maybe thousands of liverwurst sandwiches. I still love it. Back then usually just liverwurst/braunschweiger with mustard on french bread, but now sometimes also with lettuce and tomato. My dad also liked the Underwood brand in the can.

:) One of my all-time favorite sandwiches is braunschweiger, Swiss cheese and Miracle Whip™ "salad dressing" (mayo imitation), usually on cheap white bread.

(That combination is one reason I keep Miracle Whip on hand. I don't care for mayonnaise (blechh!). Miracle Whip is similar but has a nice 'tang' and I use it for tuna salads, fish burgers and the braunschweiger/Swiss combo. Everything else gets mustard.
