The last thing I attended pre-you-know-what was Jackie Green at Felton Music Hall (formerly Flynn's Cabaret, formerly Don Quixote's) in Felton, CA. I think that was in March. That's near where there were a bunch of fire related structure losses recently. Different issue, but I don't know if it's still standing.

The next band I was going to see was "Stinkfoot Orchestra", a 15-piece Zappa tribute band that would have featured Napoleon Murphy Brock. That was gonna happen at the Art Boutiki, a really small place near downtown San Jose that I've never been to. Napoleon is getting up there in the years but I saw him with the first Zappa Plays Zappa tour back in 2006. Great performer. Don't know if that is ever going to happen as it seemed like a one-off.

Last weekend I finally saw a live show near Pleasure Point in Santa Cruz, which was a set by my local faves The Mermen. They played from the porch of a home right there on East Cliff Ave, and the crowd gathered across the street on a cliff above the beach (which was theoretically closed). The sun was shining, about 85F, beautiful and fun set with the ocean waves crashing behind. That was just before this orange layer descended on the West Coast.

    How about you?

It's been so long :( I can hardly remember, but it may have been The Wildhearts, November last year.

The last two shows I saw before the mask drop were both francophone shows in Québec. Most here have probably never heard of them:
Les Cowboys Fringants in St Therese right before Christmas and then Cayouche in Drummondville in March. Nothing since then.

They were close together, so I don't recall which was last. However, I saw Heart and also Sara Maclaghlin a while back. Both fantastic shows.

My wife and I saw Steve Martin and Martin Short live just before lockdown. Many funny gags of course but also some high quality music courtesy of the Steep Canyon Rangers (with Steve M on banjo and by themselves). Some great bluegrass singing and playing.

John Prine (RIP) at the 30A Songwriters Festival in the Florida Panhandle, in January. Main stage, with Tanya Tucker opening, followed by The Indigo Girls, and then John.

Joe Walsh in 2017. Bonus feature—Uncle Larry was his other guitarist.

We saw Sara McL a few years back. We knew she was gonna be good, but we didn't know she was gonna be THAT good!

Christone "Kingfish" Ingram at the New Orleans House of Blues. That was at the end of last year, but is the last live show I saw.

Marc Ribler and Friends Present George Harrison’s Birthday Bash Beatles, Bangladesh & Beyond at The Cutting Room, NYC. Even met Steven Van Zandt, he was there with his wife and some friends. Good times. This was Feb 28th, just before everything went to crap

Wow great to hear that the Mermen are still at it, great band. Sounds like an especially cool setting to see them.

Last show I saw was the Levin Brothers at One Longfellow Square, Portland ME in December; comprised of bassist Tony Levin of King Crimson etc., his brother keyboardist Peter, and a guitarist and drummer whose names I can't recall. Very small room, and an eclectic setlist including jazz standards and originals, instrumental covers of Paul Simon and Steely Dan among others, and some choice Crimson tunes for good measure. Tony played his N/S Designs upright electric bass, the builder of which (Ned Steinberger) is not far up the road from my place here. Had a friendly chat after the show, good times.
