...why do Ginger and Mary Ann and Mrs. Howell have sweaters for what was supposed to be a three-hour tour in the tropics???

I'm not complaining...I mean, hello? ...but...just sayin'.

Sorry to bust any bubbles here at all, OK?

it's was a Comedy, not a Documentary... LOL

the 7 castaways were representative of the 7 deadly sins

professor was pride
mr howell was covetous
ginger was lust
mrs howell was anger
the skipper was gluttony
mary ann was envy
gilligan was sloth

humm... so it was a rebellious anti-religious show,

and not prime time TV Comedy at all ?

that's just dastardly ~ darn ole Hollywood always stealing your souls even, ever before they knew the test pilot would be a success at all.

Hard telling how many times I sat there eating a baloney sandwich and seyfert’s chips watching those reruns after school with my sister.
Me, too. One of my favorite memories as a kid in the '70s was watching Gilligan's Island and Brady Bunch reruns after school (and I vividly remember this episode with the Mosquitos). Such great times! I must have been too young because I never had the Ginger vs Mary Anne thing, but I do distinctly remember being in love with Cindy Brady.

I thought Gilligan's Island was politically correct indoctrination. I mean, the Bourgeoisie was laid bare!
it was. Sherwood Schwartz pitched it as an allegory about the need for cooperation amongst the various entities of a capitalist society.

(I'm NOT kidding. Read the book on the Brady Bunch . . . the first show to feature a blended family)

The videos on this thread--fun in small doses, like every 20 years ; ) Nothing worse than 60s kitsch except parodies of it.

Googled him:
Schwartz described the concept in an interview:

“I thought I had a great idea. And it’s still a great idea. It’s people. Here’s a serious show. It’s serious in that Arabs and Jews have to learn to live together for they’re stuck together. North Koreans and South Koreans, they have to learn. If you don’t learn, you’ll all die. So there’s this philosophic basis — this is not an afterthought, this is in the show. When the show first came on the air I got with regularity bachelor’s degree, master’s degree thesis from people in the theatrical area explaining what’s the basis for Gilligan’s Island. Like I didn’t know. It was carefully thought out, these seven people. That took me like a year to figure out who should be on the island. And it was all with a view towards the respect that people have to learn for each other because nobody is the same as anybody else. ....That’s what the show is about, people learning to live together.”

An old friend and I talked about this learning to live together few years ago after watching the gang on the Andy Griffith show reruns a bunch when we were at lunch at 18( also how many different ways did they say somebody got drunk over the years??)
Corny-Isum* TV! we sat thru miles of it as we grew up...
Yea my folks probably looked at that show like I did Full House and others “kids you’re losing IQ points”

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that James Burton, during his Wrecking Crew days, is playing the lead guitar on "He's a Loser" in the first video. The phrasing, the Tele tone and "Ching" of a metal fingerpick are unmistakably his.
