I'll throw in another Scotty Anderson.
And John Jorgenson and Jerry Donahue, because I haven't seen either mentioned.
I also really like Eric Skye's playing. He plays jazz on a flattop acoustic. (http://www.ericskye.com/)
And I'll mention Poppa Chubby. I'm not sure about the legend thing, but I listened to him a lot when things were bad.
I don't know if Pat Martino's lesser known, but he definitely deserves legend status. Just the fact that he learned to become a virtuoso on the instrument twice. (Edit, if you don't know the story, he had a brain aneurysm. Afterwards, he had no memory of guitar and re-learned to play using his own recordings to help his recovery).
