what gets you in the zone? I like a gagillion genres, I'm a "songs" person with occasional toe dippage in the avant-garde, at heart.
links or it doesn't count ( pun: or "it doesn't count" as any $ for the artists sadly...sigh...system broken...)

Andy, I know you have eclectic tastes, so I ll suggest Billy Laughlin the tap style guitarist's "Fingerdance". I have the CD by the same name and its provided great background for many a project. Here's a live cut: (music starts about 1:30)

Got one more for you if you're up for some more guitar music-- this is from "Heat" by the Chilean-Canadian flamenco style guitarist, Oscar Lopez. This CD has also helped speed some tedious, but concentration-demanding work. Oscar is not a completely flamenco guitarist, there's some pop flavor and I don't know what else, but check out his hot flamenco licks at about 3:30 in this one. Fairly conventional stuff compared with what you posted or even compared to Coltrane, but it works for me.

The Win 95 PC on my bench doesn't have an internet connection, just a hard drive loaded with Miles Davis, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell and other Jazz cats.

Last night I was working on a chassis and thought jazz was key and put on some Dave Brubeck. What is it about jazz that gets you into building an amp I wonder. It'd be difficult to concentrate with something like Metallica, I guess.

Gotta be blues. All the guitar slingers- SRV- Muddy The three Kings, EC, Albert Collins... to mention a few.

If you do this it will put the mojo in the amp and by morning you will be able to chanel all the greats...

provided you stop by the cross roads, and make a deal. ;)

Maybe a little something from Etta (THE Queen of Soul). This song brings back memories of Otis Redding and the soul sounds from Stax Records.
