He caught a lot of criticism for this on the interwebs, but I actually kinda like it. Rhythmically it's pretty interesting.

Lol, reminds me of ‘back in the day’ when my friends would grab my guitar and play some bullll shhh..t.

Then I’d grab it back and either play some Too $hort (“I’m a Player” bass line), or Slayer. Good times :)

I find it difficult to take any grown man seriously that calls themselves Lil' anything. Or Yung anything for that matter.

He's not the most intolerable rapper, personality-wise. He's into cool things like guitars and skateboarding - he's just not good at any of them. Haha.

I've really disliked the Ca$h Money guys since the late 90s, so I'm heavily biased, but it sounds like the guitar equivalent of that mumble stuff he does... bad timing, makes no sense, goes nowhere.

Well, at least he's not playing in first position. What gets me even more than his performance is the apparent awed reaction by some of the crowd.

I’m not familiar with his work. I actually know who he is from the series of Key & Peele sketches about Lil Wayne dealing with prison life.

But it seems like fragments of guitar noodling, which seem directionless and patience-trying as evidenced by the reactions in this thread, could be pretty interesting and add character if used as sampled fragments amongst other sounds. Hey Lil Wayne...check it out. That’s some useful free advice, right there.

Wow. Maybe you should write raps, that was excellent.

I ride past the HollyGrove neighborhood of New Orleans where he grew up on a regular basis while making deliveries.
He gets my respect for making it out.

I know, let’s crap all over some guy on the internet with huge influence over multiple demographics of people the guitar industry has been too stupid to penetrate because he has different interests, and doesn’t play how we expect him to (he was very new at the time by the way).

Yes, let’s gate keep some more and pretend like everything is okay because fender had a nice sales year largely selling to a demographic that will be dead in 10 years. That 10% of new players on fender play being under 24, (as if that is even young in terms of learning an instrument) on a platform that should be overly weighted in that demographic, is a REALLY good sign!

Meanwhile, you can try to do a better job than lil Wayne to explain to the current crop of teenagers that guitar playing is in fact not (recently derogatory old time word for “happy”). Because that is what many of them think, I’ve heard that opinion more than once!

This post has me confused. It's like a riddle or something. I've read it 10 times and feel like I have to work really hard to get some of the points. Maybe it's my lack of intelligence.

I love hip-hop, I don't think he's good at it. I love guitar and don't think he's good at that just because he's popular.

Young people, women, and non-bloozdads are playing guitar in record numbers. Lil Wayne has nothing to do with that.

I’m sorry, it was 20% of the new subscribers were under 24. That is a very small minority in a platform that HEAVILY oversamples them... And 20, let alone 24, is not “young” in terms of learning to play an instrument. There are no indications that “record numbers of young people” are learning to play.
