In the past 12 months, my wife hit a deer with her almost new car and totaled it, my son was backed into and had to make a claim (the other person did not have insurance) and so, while we are close (this year, I swear) to having our kids off our insurance, I figured 'well, our rates will go up'.

Instead, when I went to the mail tuesday, inside.... 7 checks from State Farm! Woo Hoo! The letter inside (not gonna lie did not read all of it) said, 'we had a good year and with everybody staying home, here is a dividend check.

Last weekend was 'rake time' at the cabin, it usually takes 3 days, but we had my wife, me, my son, daughter and her bf and man, we did it all in one day. We had the neighbors over (who had friends up to help them rake) and it was decided our current set of tools was lacking... so, I used the checks to order new rakes, pitchfork, macleods, steel tined rake, two new shovels. I also bought a new coffee grinder and an apple air tag for the dog.

I'm gonna put some of our old stuff out at a 'share' area for people who will want them.

    Thanks State Farm!

In Canada we have a program where we can get a rebate on auto insurance because of the pandemic. I’ve applied. I believe it’s for the amount paid of one month. My rebate’s already spent on a reverb pedal.

They have handled our claim really well. My teenage son was t-boned. First insurance claim I have filed in decades.

    Aaron Rodgers didn't call back.

I got a couple of checks from them this past week also.

I'm sure plenty of people have horror stories, but every car I've ever driven in California (too many to count) has been insured by State Farm and I've always been treated well.

EDIT REPLY - Deleted my original reply asking if the debris created by trees was called "slash" which is what my friends in Colorado call it. I verified on my own....

slash is what is left when you take trees down and limb them, the limbs and roots and leaves are all called slash.

this summer is going to be super busy after the fires, we have a new BIG fireline that we want to keep cleared, but we had a mono wind event (like a mini hurricane) about a month ago and it blew a ton of trees down... We have lots of timber down, so, lots of cutting and bucking and maybe some milling...

but yeah, slash is not just a guitar player!

Did you know that Barry Manilow wrote the State Farm jingle over 45 years ago?

He got a check, too – a flat fee of $500.

I've had State Farm since I got my license (gas was 65 cents a gallon). Also use them for home and up until recently for life (cancelled life and put that money instead into my Roth IRA - better investment). They have always treated me well, and I see no reason to change.

That might be the best thing Manilow ever wrote.

And we're in for a doozy of a fire season this year. Lack of rain, record high temperatures, all those criminals looking for something to do now that they're not making license plates.

Good stuff and way to pay that dividend back. I just remembered my disability policy has a rebate where I get half the premiums back every five years if I don't have a claim. Started it in 2006, so not quite $3,800 coming back to me this month.

Manilow sang “Mandy,” but he did not write it. Also, the song was originally was originally named “Brandy,” but there was already a hit song by that name, so the name was changed to "Mandy."

Manilow did, however, write other jingles, including:

    “Dr. Pepper, so misunderstood …”

    “I’m stuck on Band-Aid, ‘cause …”

“You deserve a break today …”
