This is the issue. I don't do ultimatums. I'm too old, and I've been down that road before. It doesn't end well, and so its a question of how do you want the bandaid to come off.

Sounds like the makings of a good country song...

Good luck, I hope it works out. It's hard to tell right and wrong without knowing both parties involved, but if she set the ultimatum then she's the one willing to end the relationship over your cats.. although I'd guess there's more going on. Regardless, I think it's tough being with someone who you can't work through things with... esp. for a lifetime. So it's probably for the best. Again, good luck, and definitely get that guitar.

This calls for treating yourself to an expensive guitar: If it were me, I'd go Gretsch Duo Jet or goldtop LP with P90s or minis. Just food for thought.

Used to see a band that played a song called "Love My Dog" (chorus lyrics: "if you wanna love me, you better love my dog"). Great song.

YEA, like one of the '50s Les Pauls with the P90s or (I like the alnico 2 humbuckers on that model also).
If you're somebody who gives an ultimatum or caves to one, I'm pretty sure that we don't ever need to meet.(talking people in general and nobody here in particular)

To me, it’s choosing freedom/liberty over manipulation.

That sucks but it's probably for the best. I would have made the same choice as you.

Whenever life throws me a curve ball I tell myself "This too shall pass". And eventually it does.

Hang in there, and be kind to yourself.

The more people I meet, the more I like my dogs and cats.
Given the same ultimatum I’d have to say, “don’t let the door hit you........”

What is needed is room to swing a cat, or in your case, three cats.
This brings up the question, are the swinging cats in parallel or series?
It makes a difference, you know.

To me, there is no question that you did the right thing. You possibly just dodged what may have been one of the biggest bullets to ever come your way. More ultimatums after marriage would end in divorce, and all that you lose with it. Try not to get close with that personality type again, and whatever you do, don't ever watch Movie 43. Enjoy that guitar, and buy yourself another.
