    Ah.

    Diplomacy at its best! :D

    +

There's something really critical, precious about being able to get a new member and take a guy at his word. I promise every new guy, I will do my darndest to see the positive things in what you're doing, and try my best to be your champion.

But when people show up and give everyone a bad taste in their mouth; make them feel bad for offering the hand of hospitality, I just find that offensive.

I just think it speaks volumes, that guys with a thousand posts or more are also not the ones with the tallest tales to tell. I wonder why that is. :)

I'm sure you know that Fender has had guitars made under contract in China for quite a while now, so your neck certainly could be both Fender and Chinese. All we are saying is that the headstock details look nothing like typical Fender USA or Mexican necks, but a lot like those coming out of China.

It looks like a very nice guitar. You did a good job assembling it and I'm glad you like it so much.

A "Spookycaster"! I like that.

Thank you Kevin. Am not sure where the neck was made and now you pointed out that some Fenders were made in China perhaps my neck did come from that factory. This is my first Fender guitar(partcaster) ive built or owned and thought they only came from the USA or Mexico, i had no idea some were made in China.
In the shop i was just shown there range of Fender necks and bodies that they had in stock.
This is my first venture in to the world of electric guitars and thanks to the folks on here am learning something new every day

Necks made in Fender's own Corona, California factory sell for about £350 or so. The ones made in Fender's Ensenada, Mexico factory sell for more like £125.

Other Fender-branded necks are made on contract to Fender, and typically cost less, although the Fender Japan necks, made by Tokai or Dyna Gakki are of high quality and priced accordingly.

Mine cost £183. So could be from Mexico. I got a 1 year Fender replacement warranty with it. I also got the same with the body

OP, you posted this picture on 3rd November...

...before your Custom Shop got trashed by HMRC and before you even built it, which is pretty impressive.

That is probably about right. They sell for $200 in the USA, so if you convert to pounds and add in duty and VAT you are there.

Fender has only just started offering replacement necks (and bodies). They sold them many years ago but then just left it to a handful of aftermarket companies who built "licensed" necks and sold them themselves.

I haven't seen one of these replacement Fender necks "in the flesh", and I'm not sure anyone on the forum has. They are that new. They are up on Fender's website though, here.

What has thrown us with yours is the headstock transition. It's really only a cosmetic detail, but look at yours compared to say a MIM 50's Classic...

    [IMG] [IMG]

Your replacement neck has a much "harder" transition from the headstock to the actual neck, and this is usually the hallmark of a Chinese copy. I have no doubt that yours is one of the new MIM replacements though.

Something else doesn't quite add up.

Your Tele has a 22-fret neck...

I hope no one will be nasty to him, some people get a little lonely and look for attention, it can be a sign of mental illness. I work for a mental health charity so I'd ask everybody to be nice, offer him the chance to explain and not get too judgemental.

Although I did find it a little odd that a Fender custom shop with all of it's official documentation got smashed up.

That is a very thoughtful comment indeed, I couldn't agree more. I was amazed when I read this guy's story, told friends about it and everything. Now I wonder what the REAL story is??

Very well said, though I will not be surprised if we don't hear from him again.

I suspect it will depend on his tolerance for double-negatives. ;)

    Thanks, Chris. Well played.

Guy was pretty resilient, right up until this got posted. Kinda took the wind out of his sales-pitch. ;)

Between Boris's "Spidy Senses" tingling and Chris's investigative skills; this looks like another tele-tale has come to a close.

On the picture of the rear of the headstock, it looks like it's been photo shopped so you can't read the serial number. What is that white mark??
