Psychedelic Furs, I always liked this one. And yes, Weird and (somewhat) Awesome are pretty good adjectives for that whole decade.

I got nothin! That decade I was in an Eskimo village on the bering sea...300 people 1 phone at the city shack.( If the phone rang chances were that no one was around to answer)... 600 miles from the nearest road. The wind sang some pretty fierce notes!

Rock Lobster by the B52s was the 70s, not the 80s.

So was Fish Heads by Barnes & Barnes.

Kevin Hopper, bassist in the band Stump is a mad genius that nobody has ever heard of. He's a fairly normal sort of guy...until he has a bass in his hands. That's when things get really great.

Here he is showing how he plays the main riff from the tune Chaos:

    Speaking of abnormal... GREAT band:

I must have seen them 7 times at least on Halloween at Irvine Meadows. My all time favorite band. The concerts were the absolute best!

    Weirdly epic

For me, Jane's was the merciful beginning of the end of the 80s.

Here's a song I loathed at the time, but it has aged much better than most 80s schlock. I find it kind of charming now.

Someone else post a King Crimson song from the 80s, but really their entire 80s catalog fits "weird but awesome." The 80s incarnation was one of the most unique and interesting bands ever IMO.

Believe it or not, this video was a mainstay in the first few weeks/ month or two of MTV before the big wave of new ones flowed in going forward around 1981?.. It was the strangest thing I had seen as a 13 year old kid on TV since the "Night of the Living Dead" movie... Albeit, a creative and very unique video and song imo.

Thank you for giving me a reason for posting what I consider to be one of the most chilling ballads to come from that era.

Heck, let's have a live version too.
