I saw it a few days ago and approved of it more than "enjoyed" it. It is 100% utterly lacking in any modern agenda, which is a good thing. Pure unadulterated pre-modern Viking culture. There is only one moment that hints at a cultural change to come, which has to do with the will to choose a less-violent path, if not one's fate. An amazing film, but not for the physically or morally squeamish.

This is jaded by memories of my father who died too young. I never forget going to the theater for the Pink Panther movies and his laughing like we never really knew him otherwise. I think it was Return Of The Pink Panther with the pool scene and for that one he about fell out of his chair.

Probably the best of the Pink Panther sequels.

I thought this would be about the best movie ever. Wizard of Oz.

1939 was a good year for movies.

Stagecoach
The Roaring Twenties
Destry Rides Again
Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
Gone With The Wind
Only Angels Have Wings
Young Mr. Lincoln
Goodbye Mr. Chips
Son of Frankenstein

and so on . . .

POSSIBLE MILD SPOILER.
The director says that Conan The Barbarian (Arnold version) was an influence, and you can see that all over this one, down to some key plot elements.

The Story of the Kelly Gang

Unquestionably the "best movie ever" when it was released back in 1906.
(It is recognised as the world's first full length narrative feature film).

Cool thing is - that is real Kelly Gang armour (it was loaned to the filmmakers and used in the film)
