My 50's Roadworn had them. Great for rock yet a little dark and grainy to my ear for clean country tele sounds. I went with Fralins 2/5's and they are just right

My go-tos for strat pickups. Not muddy like TX specials, and sound great clean or driven. Love em.

no experience with em in a tele

Have a set in a Strat. Makes the bridge pickup usable for me with the little bit extra girth. Not so thin and brittle. Don't have any experience with the Tele versions.

I've always liked my Nashville Tele - since 2003 I think - and most everyone who plays it tries to buy it off me. I keep mine set kinda low, no higher than factory specs. Really brought out the twang in the bridge pickup.

I got mine in 2007, it had been dropped, and a huge chuck of the white poly finish just chunked off, guy had SCOTCH TAPE on it, and I talked him down to $140. After a set up it became not my BEST guitar, but my most "GIGABLE"- those Tex Mex pickups can do many things with a good amp and your hand near the tone knob.

Love them in a Tele, not that much in a Strat.

I have them in my Nashville. I love them.

I had them in an MIM Standard Tele (natural ash body w/ tortoise shell 'guard). It was early on in my Tele experience, and all I heard was the knock that "those pickups have ceramic pickups".

Curiously, I found they are overwound, making them 'hot'.

I don't know that I would call them "hot", but they ARE different!

Would this make other pickups sound dull or lifeless in comparison?

Not at all. Just different. Depends on what you like.

What are your thoughts on Tex Mex? Love them? Hate them? Don't mind them?

I LOVE Tex Mex pickups!

There are better options for a bluegrass, country or jazz vibe, but if your schtick is rock, blues, alternative, punk... then the Tex Mex pickups are a worthy consideration!

More winds = slightly higher output + slightly less highs.

Other pickups would not be dull or lifeless. In fact some people prefer lower winds for the extra presence of highs.

It just comes down to what suits you, and that's why we have so many options.

have the neck version in 2 Fender Strats because it has more balls then the vintage ones without losing the sparkle...work great with the vintage middle pu...

Came stock in my 50s RW Tele. I'm doing mostly old school stuff on the bluesy side, and they are great for that. Haven't tried the Strat version.

Yeah, I love talking about them because they are my favorite Telecaster pickups. It's the only telecaster neck pickup that sounds good to me (lots of definition and none of the usual mud), and the bridge pickup ROCKS while retaining all the Telecaster awesomeness and attitude. I didn't realize they were overwound until you mentioned it - they don't sound like other overwound pickups I've had.

I'm only really familiar with Tex Mex Strat pickups. I don't love them, they're a little too rough around the edges and don't have enough jangle and quack for my tastes. That said, they are a great value at about $70 for a set of 3 and depending on the intended use may be perfect. I paid 4x as much for my set of Lollars and while I love my Lollars, they're definitely not 4x as good as the Tex Mex pickups.

I only play clean. They sound darn fine to me. As for the bridge being my favorite country bridge pickup? It's ok at best. The neck pickup? It's just ok. The 2 and 4 switch positions? I lose control of my functions. It all just plays so well together.
