Let me start off with Golden earring.

And yeah, they played it live with the Coral as well.

Two of my favorites from Vinnie Bell's "Pop Goes the Electric Sitar"

How about less ugga-chukka and more electric sitar?

Pat Metheny, unfortunately not the best footage.

But because of that song being so pretty, here is a live version.

I saw B.J. Thomas' guitarist use one at a state fair on "Hooked On A Feeling".

Awesome thread. I have that Vincent Bell "Pop Goes..." album, an all-time favorite. I abandoned my experiment fitting a "buzz bridge" to an old Harmony solid body, and next on my GAS list is a Coral sitar! or reasonable facsimile.

    Always liked this song, too:

This thread can't go on without a little history of sitar influence in rock n' roll. The Beatle/Rolling Stone two step: George Harrison on Norwegian Wood", then Brian Jones on "Paint it Black":

Dano'/Electric Sitar/Vinnie Bell fans may be interested in this. Longtime lurker here. Came across this thread and thought I could add a little something. There were 4 prototypes built prior to the production model. This is #1. Only 6 sympathetic/drone strings as opposed to 13 on the production model, separate input for each string set, transducer p/u for drone strings {production model had a Lipstick pickup}, individual resin saddles on the Sitar-Matic bridge {production model had one solid cast resin bridge plate}. This is the first "buzz" bridge Vinnie built. The body shape was altered on the production model also. After sitting in Vinnie's basement for decades, once I cleaned and set it up it played/buzzed beautifully. Very interesting piece of guitar history.

Amost the same body as the first version of the Bellzouki.

The song that always comes to mind is Rat Race by The Specials as Roddy is using one in the video although if it's actually on the song it isn't very heavily featured.

Whenever someone on a guitar forum asks ' how do I get a sitar sound' the reason is almost always because they are playing Band of Gold in a covers band.

I wouldn't be surprised if they just used a Bellzouki body for that prototype.

It kind of looks like they also chopped off a bit for that tuning machine on the first drone string.
