I enjoy mechanical watches for what they are: Tiny machines. Yes a 20 dollar casio keeps better time than virtually any automatic but that's not the point. There is no need for any watch in this day and age, let alone the care and feeding of 40 to 50 yo watches that I prefer.
Everyone carries a phone or is within view of a clock of some sort so, like tubes, germanium transistors or vinyl records, they are for the most part obsolete technology.
And aren't we all here to celebrate obsolete technology?

As you like. The mechanical watch thing hasn't bitten me. A wristwatch is just a tool for me. I also want to keep the price down, but I can see the appeal of craftsmanship. No battery? How does it run at night?

(Solar watches have rechargeable batteries. Eventually those batteries need to be replaced, too, but they can last for 20 years or more. Even straight up quartz watches can have batteries that last for 10 years.)

I think it has a capacitor? A guess. stores daylight solar charging energy? Maybe it is some type of battery. Unsure.

I can't follow the link at work. But cheap mechanicals are not handmade -- that takes away any remaining appeal to me.

I completely agree about Seiko model 5 watches. I add a lens protector to them (amazon 29MM) they are accurate and they come in different faces.

If anybody knows the artist of these watch tips let me know. I can't find him registered.

Cause that's been mine for almost a decade... I wore a few different wrist watches, well into the smart phone era, Dragging my kid around playing ball, I finally lost patience with the parents who were too lazy... to drag their phones out of their purses or pockets.

Seriously... try it sometime.

You'll snap after a few hours and scream "Do I look like Big fricking Ben?"

The bezel is a circular slide rule, but it’s too small for me to actually read anymore, and in the very early morning it’s easy to misread the hour. I’ve ordered an Apple Watch. Not as stylish, but more practical.

I have been looking for a small gold tone rectangle watch leather band with luminous hands for over a year. I think luminous went away unless it is a dive watch. The only ones I find are vintage and contain radium.

I'm not an extravagant person by nature. But I've wanted a *nice* watch for at least the last 5 years. I signed up at a watch site that sent me daily (and sometimes twice daily) updates about new watches for sale at what seemed to be decent prices. I read them all, looked at prices, etc, but never pulled the trigger. And then about a year ago I saw one I couldn't resist. I bought it.

It was more money than I would spend if all I wanted to know what time it is. But I wanted something that is elegant as well. Its some of the best money I've ever spent--I love this watch, and get compliments on it at least weekly.

I have a bout six watches, I really like watches, I think it’s the only decent piece of jewelry for a man to wear and I like to know what time it is. My day-to-day watch is a high watch too. I do have my fathers Rolex oyster. At his funeral the mortician was in the process of closing the casket and locking it and my mom looked at him very seriously and she said take Bob’s Rolex off, we’re not gonna bury that so I have it now and when she handed it to me it was a moment of Extreme discomfort mentally.. I have a fender guitar watch I have a couple citizens and you know I have a I have a couple really cool swatches but day today I wear an I watch and I like it a lot. I have Arlo security cameras looking off the front of my condo in the back and if anything moves near the camp condo I can see them clearly on my watch. I think that’s pretty cool.
