As SPECTRUM001 brought up on another Thread, when the ‘natural relic’ argument is pitched, it is often with a nitro finish body.

    So..................................................................................

Let's see some photos of your Vintage Poly Finish Tele/Guitar!!

Poly wears real well, as we know. I have a '68 Tele that looks in really top condition, but not a single picture of it. I'l do that tomorrow when there is better light since I want some pics of it anyway. Looking forward to seeing some cool poly guitars here!

    Please do FL!

It will be refreshing to see some vintage guitars that aren't nitro, and I might mention at this point that Hendrix's Strats weren't nitro :)

1985 Squire. Scratches abound, but no chips. I don't think it ever saw the inside of a case until I got it.

What is the O.P’s cut off of “vintage” years?

I may or may not apply

Well, I might have participated except I just had the poly stripped during a re-fret. There was only one nick on the neck after what, 44 years! But I have to say the guitar sounds much more resonant and lively with the poly removed. In the fuzzy picture on the left is that neck from 1976.

    Hi Fretting out, great question!

Sometimes the definition of vintage depends on whether one is seliing or buying a guitar :)

But for this Thread, let's say 20 years minimum.

    Thanks!

I have a 94 mij pink paisley strat (say that ten times fast!)
That I posted not to long ago that the general consensus was that it’s wear seems legit and I believe it to be also

I wasn’t quite sure but the fingerboard is rolled in a way that only playing would do

I have a friend who has an 80s MIJ Squier Strat . The fretboard looks like that of a CS Heavy Relic Broadcaster.

Who says poly can't age attractively?

    IMG_20180808_115649.jpg

My 97 made Thinline - the neck was very pale new, the body was the colour under the guard

25 years old. Starting to show a little wear on the fretboard now.

I have a 1993 MIJ Strat with a poly finish.

You can see the grain ripple in the surface of the finish so it's on very thin... Not a bit of wear apart from one or 2 small chips around the neck pocket.

When I had a refret I had the neck refinished in a light nitro and already see a little wear.

The body will never ever wear like a nitro one.

Particularly like the mega scratched up 83 !

What is evident so far is a lack of graduation wear - chips, scratches and poly lift, but not wear.

Forgive my ignorance, however I do not understand the ‘Hendrix’s Strat was poly’ statement. Guitars from his era seem to have the thin wear I would associate with nitro - no ?

35-40 yrs or so and this is as bad as any of my poly guitars are. An old Jazz

Everything else 80’s or so is pretty much like new though.

I’ll post some pics later but the thing I’ve been surprised by is how reasonably thin poly sinks into the grain.

    Since the vintage parameter was set at 20 years by the OP, I have two that qualify;

    • 1988 Fender American Standard Strat (Sunburst)
    • 1998 Fender American Deluxe Strat (Teal)
Neither have any dents or dings in them, just natural wear from many hours of playing.

Well I stand corrected - so you can ‘wear through’ poly ?!

Perhaps my 78 Precision is poly after all ?? There certainly seems to be differences in thickness and plasticity content...

Don’t know whether this 1978 is poly and qualifies or is not ?
