a-ha's The Sun Always Shines made it to #20 on Billboard.
I do a "trio" version of Take on Me......gets even a cynical audience moving and shouting. ;)

And that's why they're in this thread. They had one "hit" in the USA, but were huge in their home country. That's the point.

This and Every 1's A Winner were Hot Chocolate's only songs to chart in US:

I’m happy to be corrected but I get the impression this is Oasis’ signature track in the US, whilst elsewhere for a 2 or 3 year period almost everything they put out was a big deal.

Squeeze. I think their only US hit was Tempted. I believe they had a number of hits in the UK.

Correct. Maybe because all their songs were quintessentially English. A bit like Ray Davies. Anyway keysman Jules Holland Is a National Treasure now.

I loved Our Lady Peace’s first four records, still listen to them. I started really getting into music when Clumsy came out, age 12 or 13. They had a couple singles on the radio I recall at that time, but yeah, nowhere near that same success in the states with their other releases.

Champagne Supernova was moderately big over here too, I think. Other than that yeah I don’t remember hearing any of their other singles on the radio.

I was going to say Stereophonics, but I don’t think they even had one hit in the US really.

While internationally he is only known for "Amadeus", Falco had a successful career before and after that song in my country...

Falco is sorta kinda also known in the US for "Der Kommissar," even though it was an British group, After the Fire, that had their only dent in the US charts with their cover of the song in English:

I'm pretty sure I saw the video of Falco's version on US video shows back in the early '80s.

Some of my favorite bands in this thread and overall under this subject header! Somewhere between 70's Glam and 90's Britpop/Shoegaze is a bit of a wheelhouse ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Good call. Der Kommissar showed up a tiny bit before that. But it was eclipsed by the english cover by After The Fire. Amadeus then became really the only US hit.

Interestingly, according to the googles, Der Kommissar by After the Fire charted in US after the band broke up. The song barely made a ripple in UK where the band was from, however. So, fitting for this thread....

The Proclaimers? I believe 500 Miles was their only US hit, but they've had a good careee in the UK. Living in Leith I hear 'Sunshine on Leith' belting out of the stadium when Hibs score at home. An odd choice for a football anthem, but it works.

The title track from their latest album goes through my head whenever I'm doing a leetle hate watching.
