The Ventures' music is one of the huge reasons I play guitar today. My parents were spining their music on the Decca record player in the 60s when we were living on Oahu and the wee Peegoo was in emelentary school. I was in the 2nd grade, and I wanted to be in THAT band!

I've played Walk Don't Run for years but never recorded it, so today my tendinitis was not too bad and I took a shot at it...with a few twists, of course.

    Thanks, gents!

It was the Hawaii Five-O album that got me hooked:

    Nice work!

We had this in the house growing up - it's great!

To this day, The Ventures still influence my playing. Their songs are pretty much the blueprint for playing guitar.

Nicely done, Sir! I've always loved Walk Don't Run. You've done it justice.

Here's a tune they played live but it never made it onto a record.

It's the next one I'll try:

I collected SURF albums in the late 70's thru mid 80's. I have 31 Venture albums.
I haven't played them since. The turntable broke. What will my kids do with this?

Big fan here too. Walk Don't Run is/was a favorite in the set list for years.

Along with Walk Don't Run, Bulldog and Diamond Head are my favourites.

The solo in Bulldog is so smooth...

There are so many great surf bands...The Atlantics, Cosmonauti, The Halibuts; some amazing bands from Japan too.

Check out the album Blue Stingrays. It's all surf stuff, recorded by The Heartbreakers (of Tom Petty fame). Mike Campbell is a guitar badass. Here's a sample.

Laika & The Cosmonauts were from Finland and not really a surf band, but holy Sex Wax, Batman! They could surf better than most surf bands. When I think of the ideal surf guitar tone, it's Mikko's:

I haven't been real surf fan since the start but then realized I love many of it's elements. And songs too. Of course film industry like Tarantino have been guiding me to that way too.

It's something I can't play but dig very much, all the variations and stuff.

Glad you've found Laika & The Cosmonatus, they're amazing. Could also check some Esa Pulliainen stuff (Agents). Wonderful guitarist who's combining surf, rock'n roll, slavic and schlager influences.

Edit: Replaced the link, maybe closer to surfish example..

Nice! One of the midweek backers from early last Summer (I think) was a Ventures Medley.

Walk, Don't Run into Perfidia and Pipeline (I think). :)
