I have a very small house so the work area is shared with my daughter, who is a budding artist. Pegboard wall is to the right of the drill press, going into the crawl space. Power tools & sand paper are stored in a 5 drawer cabinet

I’m going to build a work bench soon suited for building amps & effects and wiring pickups.

I’m going to make it modular of sorts so I can add or subtract and to make it easier to move because it needs to fit down my basement stairs. The single side of my garage is my woodworking area and the double side is for parking and there’s just no room. Detached shop is future plans for now.

Couple built in features I was thinking about;

Light
Power bar/bulb limiter
Small tool storage
Built in speaker and dummy load
Shelves for bench equipment
Something to hold wire spools while winding pickups.

Then I got thinking about what other people are using already and thought that would be a great thread.

So post those pictures of your workbench / work space or even any ideas/additions you wish you had for your bench/work area!

Ok, this thread is only on the 2nd page for the DIY forum, so I don't feel too bad about reviving it...

Got the workbench 95% complete, cleared out its living space and moved it in. Gotta re-install the bottom shelf. I have a wagon vise for the RH side but installing it will be a later project. I have a couple of Gramercy holdfasts but I won't be drilling their holes until I need them. Still need to slot the tool well for my saws...just another small project.

BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil) for the finish (just one coat). Southern Yellow Pine...made more yellow by the BLO. The legs are PT (pressure treated) 4 X 4s.

I estimate it weighs close to 350lbs/158kg/25stone. The slick epoxy floor made it pretty easy to move, once you overcome Mr. Newton's 1st law. I planed the top and it didn't move, so maybe it will be fine as-is. I have some thin cork if I need the feet to have some grip.

There are two can lights in the ceiling above it, so really nice lighting. Nice view out the window to the back porch/pergola. The windows swing out from the center so I can open them up on nice days. Of course, the shop is fully HVAC...its 71F/22C in there 24/7/365.

Don't know if it was mentioned but 40watt L E D fluro tubes are great for brightness as well as longevity, as well as being a lot cheaper to run than a lot of other "bright" interior lights!
