Hi, friends, and happy new year! I picked up a Noventa Tele for my birthday in December, and I love it so far. The neck is well-finished and easy to play. The pickup is clear, dynamic, and aggressive when I want it to be. The finish, vintage blonde, is more striking than I thought it would be. It's just a really nice guitar.
Even still, I find myself wanting to customize it. I don't play slide (yet), but I've found myself drawn to Ry Cooder's use of string-through lap steel pickups on guitars. I also like the idea of a humbucker that has the sharpness and clarity of a single coil. I looked into a number of options, most of which would require deeper modifications. I eventually, however, found the Steeltronics S6, a string-through pickup that can mount in a standard P90 route. I also like how it sounds, though I would appreciate more demos.
Two questions: do y'all have experiences with Steeltronics pickups? Is it too early for me to be thinking about changing out pickups?
