I've always been a fan of Michael Landau's crunch tone on "Tales of from the bulge"...very EVH 1984 "Drop dead legs"...

Even in this bad recorded YT vid (beginning at 1:10) you can hear this tone will cut through everything...

It's now my reference to set up a cut through the mix marshally crunch tone...:)

Not the type of music I usually associate with Michael (who has such a beautiful clean tone) but Michael can tear it up when he wants to! - interesting footage all the same.
If you are that good I guess you can play any genre and still make a contribution to the material

Video was unavailable. Compression boxes you in. It may sound great in the bedroom but on stage 10 feet in front of your amp you may sound like a swarm of angry hornets on the distant horizon. I try to use as little compression and OD as possible.
