Saw Kris last night. His band was Merle's Strangers. Great show! A good bunch of Kris' songs with a few Haggard tunes throughout. Different guys in the band sang the Merle tunes. Didn't catch the lead guitarist's name, but he was really good (everybody was).
I saw Kinky Friedman a few weeks ago, and I was struck by how similiar his voice is to Kris at present. Guess it comes with age.
    Catch it if you can!
Sorry for the pic quality, but I didn't go up close 20190411_202726.jpg

I wonder if it was Ben Haggard, he definitely has the old man's vibe.

Maybe. Guess I'll have to look it up. Funny though, I thought he sounded like Willie on the songs he sang

My girlfriend almost got herself run over by Kris' limo, before a show back in the 1980s. He got out and apologized to the girls, very nice about it.

I don't know how I would feel about seeing the Strangers without Hag. Might be too much bitter and not enough sweet.

I so wish we could've seen Merle, with the Stranglers behind him. I would've paid $$$ to see that. :^)

Imagine Haggard singing "Golden Brown". What a trip!

Funny you mention "golden brown". Earlier today I was thinking that was the only song I could kinda picture him singing

My late friend Stephen Bruton played with Kris for many years
If Kris comes my way I need to go see him again although it would be strange not to see Bruton on stage with him
Anyone not familiar with him should check out youtube or his solo albums.
Kris speaks very highly of him here:

Love Stephen Bruton - saw him with Kris in early 70s. His albums are all wonderful.

Just got back from his show. Hes friggin amazing, so are the Strangers.

His voice is deep and monotone, but that is what I like.
