Steve Earle once said that KK was one of the best songwriters to ever draw air.

    I'd have to agree...

I love his songwriting... singing though? Not often. But that video when he was young he sings well! :D

Funny, someone on another forum I post on was just recommending Kristofferson's self-titled album. Guess I'm gonna listen to it over lunch.

I had never heard this before. Thank you for posting it.

One of my great concert experiences was seeing KK with Merle Haggard and the Strangers in Bossier City, Louisiana about ten years ago. It was very laid back, like sitting in someone's living room watching them trade songs.

I've always thought Kristofferson is a good actor too. He has shown up in some surprising movie roles.

I much admire Kris and have for a very long time.

He has led such a unique, sometimes tragic, yet brilliant life...

Military man, helicopter pilot, scholar/academic, actor and songwriter; he is truly a renaissance man.

His songs are very personal: poems and vignettes put to music.

He came from a military family and did not want it to continue; and bailed, due to his beliefs.

And, he followed his muse to his parents frustrations (his mother refused to talk to him for years).

His songs are a true reflection of his core.

Yes, his voice is an acquired taste; but, also, imo, perfect for his songs.

And, perhaps most importantly... he's weathered the storm.

My wife and I saw his last show ever on Outlaw Country Cruise 5 on 1/30/20.

Wonderful and emotional. The love in that theater from 1,000 people was overwhelming.

I admit to crying three times.

He closed with Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends.

I once saw a clip of him when he first started where he may have been in Nashville, maybe not. The things that struck me was how he used his long hair to shield his face when performing & the guitar he was using. It literally looked like it had been drug behind a coal truck.

I cannot say that Kris Kristofferson is not the best songwriter in the English language over the last century. (Double negative = positive!). He has written some of the most iconic and original lines and songs ever written. Me and Bobby McGee is a masterpiece. Sunday Morning Coming Down, as was mentioned. He's right there with Dylan, Buffy Saint Marie, and...?
I love both his songwriting and singing.
I grew up with the album The Silver Tonged Devil and I...

Kris retired during lockdown. Here’s a 2018 performance, with Brandi Carlile at Joni75 (Kris was 82). Some may disagree but I find this moving - and you can see they both love singing “Darling” to one another.

My favorite KK song is "Best Of All Possible Worlds." I discovered it on the Little Willies' first album.

Poor decisions and hard times make for good songs.
