Reunion show for my old band The Sonic Insults. Power trio. All the cliche bar band crap. Our tag was always “Is it a rock band? Is it a country band? Is it a blues band? Is it a jazz-poodle-jam-band space odyssey from a parallel dimension? Yes. Yes it is.”

We hadn’t played together in about seven years. The drummer has been living in NYC doing the Jazz at Lincoln Center thing. The bassist has been working a Mexico City to Brazil and back circuit, and spending his down time bar gigging in Key West. We all just happened to be here this week.

It was ridiculously fun. We texted earlier in the week and discussed writing a song/set list. Then we decided we never did it back in the day, so why start now?

The night hit everything from Allmans, to Tom Petty, to The Cure, U2, to Buddy Guy, SRV, Hendrix, David Bowie, The Meters, The Dead, Johnny Cash, Albert Collins, Social D, Merle Haggard, Townes Van Zandt, Big Head Todd, and I don’t even remember what else.

So much fun. And the drummer has left NYC and just moved back to the CLE. We talked tonite and I think we’re gonna try to start up a project studio. Lots more fun on the horizon!

I need to go to bed now. I’m just enjoying a night cap and riding high on the wake of a great evening.

I am so happy for you!

Our drummer is currently in Latvia (from June to January 2022) so we cannot do any gigs or at least practicing at the moment and it sucks big time.:(

And a couple of days ago we found out that our singer is pregnant. Of course we were all extremely happy for her! But at the same time the future of our band is really unknown at the moment. We will see, we might be a power trio again when drummer gets back for some time :)

Always the same with the best gigs, forget sleep, just lay in bed playing every note over and again in your head. Not that it happens too often for me.

Those type of reunions are great, especially with guys you trust to be able to play anything.

I've got a band like that, also a power trio. We play very rarely because everyone is doing 3 or 4 different projects, but when we get together it's like we just played last week.

It sounds like you had a blast! You'll be riding that high for a week at least. I've always said, "playing a great gig is the most fun you can have with your clothes on"!

Playing music and finding the spot and grooving together is the best high.

It's very cool to keep in close contact those folks who you gel with to create great music. That is the hard part in maintaining a band. There is always too many other things that get in the way.
