    Stumbling past your house baby
at the break of the day
I thought I saw your silhouette
    dancing cross the shade
and I went down to the mission
I called and called your name
till an angel with a face like yours
came down and let me in

Now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired
And you can have anyone that you have ever desired
All you gotta tell me now is why, why, why, why?''

I was thirteen, living in a crappy two-bedroom apartment with my mother and sisters during yet another of my parent's separations. This song, the melancholy in it, resonated deeply within me and is the only solid recollection that remains of that difficult time.

Just reading that first line takes me back. Powerful stuff, music.

It's actually, "The king told the boogie men"- the line was inspired by their manager telling them to stop writing long, moody songs that he called "ragas." Strummer bashed out that line, and the rest of the lyrics flowed from there.

I pulled into Nazareth, was feeling 'bout half past dead
I just need some place where I can lay my head
Hey, mister, can you tell me, where a man might find a bed?
He just grinned and shook my hand, "No" was all he said.

One of my favorites: First line starts at :40

"I've got a good mind to give up living,

    and go shopping instead."

I wrote a fair few songs back in my day, and this has to be one of my strangest openers:-

“Looking through the eye in the corner of your mind,
watching all the wheels go tick tock, tick tock, ticking round...”

I'd like to have another kiss
    Another flashing chance at bliss
    Another kiss, another kiss

You know the day destroys the night
    night divides the day
Tried to run, tried to hide
Break on through to the other side

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
    .

That ought to piss off The Eagles haters here at TDPRI

I think the lyrics are very good. Just odd enough to be interesting and not specific enough to be clear as to their meaning
