I’ve listed to that clip many times over the years, as well as numerous others of the KR12. It’s a great sounding amp ad I would love to try one in person some day. But IMO it doesnt sound any better or closer to the Keef tone than dozens of clips from the likes of Victoria, Lil Dawg, Headstrong, etc. There’s plenty of good options out there. The key for me has been finding the moist appropriate wattage and headroom amp for various situations (band, home practice, etc).

The HD12 is another Louis Electric amp that sounds great in some clips but the one I ordered was a major disappointment.I wish I had ordered the 6L6 version of the KR12 i was considering
Thanks & amazing! I just this minute sent an e mail off to Louis about his KR12. I had asked if he would provide just the head, in order to save costs amp & shipping costs.
He says yes he does build just the amp heads upon request. I'm waiting for a price from him. Honestly can't say as I've heard/listened to Victoria/Lil Dawg/Headstrong. Do have any model names I could Google? For me I'm looking for about 20w and that Keef sound.I have a good 12" cab and would need only order the Celestion Lead 12.
If you don't mind a related but off the cuff question. Due the open back ( or semi open back) of the Twin does the cabinet wood even come into play, tone wise? I have a pine box and a couple of MDF boxes so was wondering about that.

Oh and I didn't realize the KR12 could be built for 6L6's. I beleive the one in the clip is the EL84 model. You wanted 6L6 's why?

A lot of it, for sure.

He also has that PAF humbucker in his Teles, sometimes reversed config for more treble. His switch is always in the bridge position but there are lots of rumors that he had it reversed so it's really the neck position. His techs are tight lipped on that.
Why would it matter if the Techs or Richards himself revealed what he was doing? It's not like a person can't use the neck position if that's the sound - or whatever the sound is it's highly unlikely that people don't know what his tone is.

Live it's Twins with Celestion Lead 80. Way too big/heavy powerful for me.
Anything else Fender makes that comes close yet 50-75% less in size.?
In studio it's Fender Champ. Anybody know which speaker he's got in there?
Essentially the question which amp for Keith's live sound at half the size and half the price.
Thanks
there was a rumor the "he ' is was going to be on the cover of men's health magazine and that he used or uses small victoria tweed amps in the studio.

My ears may not be as picky as yours - for instance I am quite happy with Joyo AS into my twin. But another amp I have, the old made-in-Meridian Peavey Classic 20, does Keef tones very well IMHO. They are relatively inexpensive, too. Worth checking out if you can find one to test drive…

Thanks for the link to Victoria!
yeah sure, my pleasure. I don't use real amps in my studio apartment as I have neighbors above to the left and right top and bottom.
However,..... I have heard or read that the Catlinbread will transform your amp into a Bassman. People here have spoken well of this little device
I have their Dirty Little Secret ( amp in a box and it is a very close approximation of a Marshall JCM 800)

The Catalinbread 5F6 is our take on the classic tweed Bassman-style amplifier from the late 1950s.

Utilizing 2-6L6 output tubes into 4-10" speakers, the Bassman quickly became the mainstay of stages everywhere during that era.

Thanks for the heads up. Can't say that I have picky ears however there is a Keef tone which I pick up on right away. Take a listen to that Louis Electric clip where he's playing the Tele. You'll hear it right away.
Yes to the Joyo. I have 2 of 'em and like them a lot.. Haven't been able to squeeze Keef out of 'em though. ;>(

Thanks. I'll check that pedal out. I do like the Catalinbread pedals, well, the one I own, being the SFT.

I dunno. He's tight lipped. He'll talk in general ways in video interviews but rarely plays specific Stones songs even when he has a guitar in hand. I've seen him refuse a direct request to show how he plays something specific. He doesn't talk about his gear aside from general questions. None of his techs talk about his gear.

The only 'gear' book I've ever bought is BFG's but i'd sure like to see a big coffee table quality book on Keith's stuff.
There is a huge VERY detailed coffee table book called “Rolling Stones Gear”…covers amps guitars, basses, and drums for all members, albums, and tours. It is fantastic.
And LOL KR doesn’t sound like KR with a Firebird? GetOff My Cloud, Satisfaction, and many others from the early days are KR on his ‘bird.

Aw c'mon Jake Get Off My Cloud was probably more Jones than Richards and Satisfaction was just a fuzz box. Absolutely no distinctive Keef there in those 2 what so ever so at this juncture it is still no; on a "bird" Keef doesn't sound like Keef. Do better. lol

Jim at Lil Dawg can tailor an amp to suit your needs. I recently ordered a customised ProDawg that is awesome. Strongly recommend You reach out to him.

Victoria Amps are great. I love my 20112 (tweed deluxe). The Double Deluxe might be worth a look.

The Headstrong BL210 is a wonderful amp and the only amp I regret selling

Yes stock power tubes are EL84. I was interested in 6L6’s because they are used in the tweed amps
Hmmmmm...that throws a monkey wrench into the works doesn't it. In any event what I heard on the clip is definitely the sound I was looking for.
Quickly Googles "power tubes" ahh.. yes 6L6 for high power amps.(Twin) EL84 for lower power. Essentially U.S. sound (Fender) vs. Brit sound (Marshall/Vox)
