Just pulled the guard and poker chip off of my 2014 Melody Maker Les Paul. Feels good man.

Yes, indeed.....took off the guard almost immediately on my LP (it felt "odd" on there playing, put the screws back in their holes) and peeled the poker chip maybe a week later....I figure, why hide the pretty wood? (....even if it's a veneer....it's an Epi, but they did a fine job with the bookmatched veneer on mine). Always thought the "rhythm/treble" was stupid, and just didn't get along with the guard.....is a fine looking guitar (oh yeah, I ditched the stock Epi knobs for some dark amber speed knobs) Now have to decide if I want to put humbucker sized P90s into it,......after all these years, have come to the conclusion that I'm not really a humbucking guy, I dunno

No poker chip on my Studio LP, unnecessary piece of plastic as far as I am concerned. But the pickguard stays.

Black Gibson Studio with the pickguard and poker chip left on for me. It blends in so its almost invisible.

I've never understood why Les Pauls always come with that ridiculous, ugly poker chip. It's not as if the switch mechanism is so enigmatic we can't figure it out.

I took one off an Epi one time and it left a mark, so I haven't done it since.

take the guard off and just put the screws back into the holes on the guitar. That way, you won’t end up losing them and really it won’t look any different than having a clear guard.

I just realized why the 2014 MM looks so naked without the pickguard. Compared to all the other Lesters here the MM has a wraparound bridge which leave a huge bare lower bout. All the other Lesters here have a bridge and a stop tailpiece filling in the lower bout.
