Just got offered a Les Paul Black Beauty...

Should I trade my CS Tele for LP Black Beauty?

  1. Obviously, LP is worth twice that

Soooo I’ll probably get some hate here but I have a dilemma.

I bought my custom shop after trading my EVH signature Wolfgang USA. See below:

    93ABC46B-2240-4935-B153-78751930C4FC.jpeg 836D04BA-D73B-4E86-A765-26CDCBDE94D2.jpeg
I hated the big monster 50s neck but thought I would get used to it. Especially after building a couple partscasters with necks to my specs that I much prefer.

I also bought a 2009 Les Paul Standard that I love.

So I put it on kijiji recently to see what was out there, and got hit up with this offer tonight:
    9CE13C05-490C-45D2-B857-62617B85B730.jpeg CFE06429-BC85-474A-B3FE-3E7FC1909DE3.jpeg 934F09FF-34E7-48E4-8EE9-EB4EE1C6EB7F.jpeg
A 2003 Les Paul Custom Black Beauty (57 model).

This may be blasphemy on this site but I started playing because a friends dad had a BB. Teles I got into because the beauty and simplicity. (I also play a lot of country music... it’s fitting).

Final consideration, my wife bought me the telecaster as a Christmas present last year... and I told her “I’ll never trade this one, it’ll be passed on to the boys” but that’s a fight I think I can win.

    thoughts, hatred, discussion?

I was all in until I read what you promised your wife. I’d pick my battles better if I were you.

I like Teles and Les Pauls. Respectfully,
If your promises to your wife are not first consideration there possibly there are more important issues.

You promised you would never trade it. End of story. That LP is beautiful, but is it worth losing your credibility and self-respect? That’s just me.

I find this funny because I bought a CS with a slim neck and thought I would get used to it. It is excellent in every respect but I can already tell that it is going back.

Life is too short to hang on to a guitar you don't like. Sounds like it might be time for a trip down memory lane.

I'll bet that your wife already knows the score.

What a problem to have, though!

Excellent necks are easy to come by. An awesome wife? Not so much.

This would be an easy call for me if the promise were not involved. If it weren’t for that I’d say take the Les Paul and run. But you promised...

So the '57 model LP DOESN'T have the fat 50's neck you hate?

I'm with the others who say that it'd be fun to play this game, but your promise means that, well, you promised. So there's that.

Everyone has made some great points.
Primarily that I have an awesome wife.

Here’s where I’m at. Out of guilt (is this what cheaters feel like?) after FaceTiming Mr. black beauty I tiptoed up to our bedroom for a chat.

Her exact words were “I got you that other brown one so you don’t trade it and really so you stop bugging me with pictures of new guitars I don’t care about. If it’s not what you like then get one you do. I love you now let me sleep”

Whether this trade happens or not she’s getting spoiled this weekend.

The tele has a 10/56 V. The 57 would also have a sizeable neck. I’m going to go to a local shop that has a similar guitar in the next few days before arranging for the trader to drive 3 hours to swap.

This marriage stuff is cracking me up. I can so relate.

Aren't you eventually going to want both types of guitar? I know I do.

OK, so game back on. If you hate the neck on the CS Tele, that's not good. I myself sure would like a Black Beauty, so I guess that's part of why I'd say go for it. But what if THAT one's not "the one"? (it seems unlikely, knowing how these things typically work...).

I explained to her that we picked the CS together and that’s what I like about it.

Then I told her that in high school my buddy’s dad had a black beauty that he let us hold once, and I’ve been hooked since, but didn’t want to ask her to spend that much money on a present.

She gets it. And she actually thinks the BB is “ugly,” but then again most people would say that I am also the ugly one in our relationship.

You'd be nuts to get rid of that tele.

EDIT: That is one of the nicest teles I've ever seen.

That les paul is gaudy and looks like something KISS would use. Keep that amazing tele!

It's a trick. Do I really have to explain? *face-palm*

Trust me, I've be gifted about 6 guitars by my SO and 3 were perfect and 3 others were modded beyond sensibility. She doesn't know, it's still a 'black Tele' to her (only the body remains). I don't give a rat's A about Gibson for the most part but if it floats your boat find another way to acquire it. Just my opinion :)

Why risk any future gifts? Lol

3pu 57 RI is awesome. Neck might have wide shoulders though. I had one I loved but had to sell bc of that reason
