The Cure is one of my top favorite bands ever- easily top 3 and in my pantheon of greatness. I think Disintegration is one of the best guitar albums of all time (just listen to all that dripping chorus and delay through some great headphones and you'll see), and that Just Like Heaven is the most perfect pop song ever written. Ever.

But they're also on my bucket list since I've never seen them live. I had a chance back in college in '93, but I let it slip away thinking I'd get another chance soon after. Fast forward 30 years and I was beginning to worry that it would never happen. Then two days ago I got a Facebook notification of tickets going on sale today- I didn't even know they were on tour! So, today my buddy went on and got tickets for the Tampa show for a group of us.

Man, I was as giddy as can be when he told me we had tickets. I can't remember the last time I was genuinely this excited to see a show (or really for anything)! As a middle-age guy, my emotions tend to be pretty blah- it's great to feel that sense of pure joy once in a while. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!😊

Anybody else out there going to see the Cure on this tour (or have seen them already)? Or feeling psyched to see one of your all time favorites soon?

I saw them a bunch in the 80’s, but not since. Miss those days.

Have a great time!

Very cool!
And yes, I´m with you all along - especially regarding "Just like heaven"!
I got to see them live shortly after "Disintegration".
I used to listen to that record (and "kiss me, kiss me, kiss me" - which might be the EVEN BETTER album...) for months on end 👍
Then there was "Friday I'm in love" (a huge hit at the time, and still a blast to hear on the radio), and then they were - apparently - gone, and noone ever even seemed to talk about them...
I keep wondering what happened to this day 🤔

cheers - 68.

That's too cool! Congrats. I saw them way back in 1992 at San Jose Spartan Stadium. It was an epic, long, captivating show. The openers were Dinosaur Jr. and The Cranes. I looked up the set list online and from what I remember, it's accurate:

  1. Tape
  2. Open
  3. High
  4. Pictures of You
  5. Lullaby
  6. Just Like Heaven
  7. Fascination Street
  8. A Night Like This
  9. Trust
  10. Doing the Unstuck
  11. The Walk
  12. Let's Go to Bed
  13. Friday I'm in Love
  14. In Between Days
  15. From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea
  16. Never Enough
  17. Cut
  18. End
  19. In Your House
  20. Charlotte Sometimes
  21. Three Imaginary Boys
  22. Boys Don't Cry
  23. Lovesong
  24. Close to Me
  25. Why Can't I Be You?
  26. Primary
  27. A Strange Day
  28. A Forest

I saw them in '89 or '90 (?)... It must have been the Disintegration tour. Admittedly, that's where we departed ways as I was a big fan of their older stuff and not really into their newer sound, but it was a great show nonetheless. It was a blast.

Last time I saw them was in '87, 36 years ago . . . and they were past there best then, IMO.

But enjoy.

Saw them in ‘91, then a few years later. I heard about the coming tour, but I don’t do big shows anymore. Still, that’s one band I’d like to see again.
Glad you’re going. Enjoy!

Saw them in the eighties. At an outdoor concert west of Pittsburgh, PA. A Forest. We lit up a joint and security was on us in a new york minute. Enjoy! Left us partiers alone too. How cool is that.

No, but a killer set list nonetheless! It really showcased how varied in styles their catalog was even back then. I mean, “In Between Days” and “A Forest” could’ve been recorded by two completely different bands, yet still sounds like The Cure. The highlight for me at the show was when they played the only track off the “Pornography” LP, “A Strange Day”. That album is their Gloom Rock masterpiece and my favorite by them.

I had a girlfriend in the late 80s. She was French, and her accent was something else.
She made me mixtapes.

The Cure - Seventeen Seconds/The Forest

Echo & The Bunnymen - The Promise/Rescue/Do it Clean

The Psychedelic Furs - Sister Europe/Susan's Strange/Wedding Song

Lloyd Cole & the Commotions - Forest Fire/Perfect Skin/Speedboat

The Swingers (Australia) - It Ain't What You Dance (It's the Way You Dance It)

Chris Spedding - Lone Rider/Wild Wild Women

The Three O'Clock - Jet Fighter

There were more, but I forget them now.

Her taste in music was her best quality, but it was a close call.

I broke it off after she tried to kill me in my sleep.

I almost agree, but I was a mid-teen when "Kiss Me" came out, heavy bias of nostalgia. "Like Cockatoos" is also amazing imo.

I'm fine with a little nostalgia now and again anyway, and occasionally one of those bands will show you they can still get after it. Gary Numan, Feelies, Slint, Echo, Concrete Blonde have all been incredible in recent-ish gigs I've seen in small clubs. I'd like to think Rob and Co can still get through the hits in an arena (or amphitheater in my case). I don't think they get/got enough credit for their musicianship.

Wife and I saw them at ACL in 2013 when they were one of the headliners. Outdoor show, dark night, great crowd. I admit I wasn't sure what to expect given that seeing acts later in their careers can be very hit-and-miss, but they sounded tight and put on a very entertaining show. Good mix of songs you know you want to hear along with some b-sides and later stuff sprinkled in.

Saw the Lost World here in Brum, Dec last year.
My 2nd time seeing them ... their usual fantastic show, despite Rovert having a sore throat.
In a word .... sublime
