Sent pics of what i was playing in their current state to a new friend at church so i figured i'd share them.

i got the starcaster for free and paid 140 for the affinity tele.

i bought the 2 mexican spit bar pups and the american strat bridge for 40. new tuners for the starcaster after one i found a broken shaft on. i think i lived with it not staying in tune well for about 5 years and figured out to have a look. lol. now it stays in tune well. 40 for ping tuners. sandpaper for the tele and a pot for the starcaster... 10 bucks? the white single ply pickguard for the tele i think was 14.99 ish? so i got roughly 250 into these guitars.

the tele sounds and plays nice to my ears. the mexican split bar strat pup in the neck has elevated that guitar to where im real happy with it. the stock neck pup was pretty, not so great.

i think i wanna get a humbucker or something like that for the starcaster. i do have an SD 1/4 pounder ive had in the neck and middle and should try it in the bridge. but i wanna get some fat smooth sounds out of it. if i can.

Great start into Fender territory. Looks like you have minimal investment and should be able to turn a profit when you decide to upgrade.

For now I don't plan to. I tried getting a better strat it was used and needed a new nut, and it ended up in disaster. it coulda been a good guitar though. Mexican but a higher end one. I'm not gonna pay for a real one at this point. Now if someone gives me one....... I have been playing for a long time and had a Mexican Tele in the 90's, then "grew up" and quit my rock star quest and sold all my stuff. Which really stinks cuz I had a ludwig vistalite like bonhom and the ludwig aluminum snare. I bet all that would go for 3k now. Ugh.

I gig bass and have a decent set up there for now. But really I don't find the squiers all that deficient at this point. Maybe some day I will, but... For now I don't. At least the Tele. The starcaster could use a fret job and a better neck could be good. But this one is fat.... It feels good but it's strange, it has a 14" radius. LOL. How? I don't know. It's bit too flat for me 12 or 9.5 would suit me better for barre chords on the first few frets. The neck on the Tele feels nice though. As good as any other guitar I've played in the sub 800 dollar territory. And much better than some.
