The guys got some chops. I've heard the name over the years but never really paid any attention until recently. Nice de-tuning, re-tuning on the fly..

I’ve known him since the early 1980s.
He’s always been an exceptional guitar and steel player.
In the early days, he had a triple neck Fender non-pedal steel on tall legs that he played standing up, with a guitar strapped on.
He often switched instruments while soloing/doing fills.
He played a single pickup Sears/Danelectro or sunburst dot ES330.
When I met him, he didn’t sing.
I’m glad he got the success he deserves.

Saw him once at Billy Bob's Texas....this same line-up....stand-up bass, drummer with just snare and brushes, and that's his wife on acoustic rhythm. (introduced her as "the most beautiful grandmother in Texas", and who would argue?) Heck of a show, played his "guit-steel" like a monster. He has said he favors silverface Twins for their great clean tone. He's definitely one of a kind.

He was in town a couple years back, at the local rockabilly joint. Unfortunately, tickets were sold out by the time I had heard about it.

Saw him a couple of years back at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. Great performance, we were front row, center stage. Been a fan ever since.

Seen him 2-3 times in AZ back in 90’s and early 2000’s. His playing goes without saying, but he’s also an underrated lyricist and songwriter.

Back in ‘93, my only time in Austin, was when I first discovered him... during an Antone’s, “who’s who, in their local blues scene”, benefit. Like nothing I’d ever witnessed, he stole the show, in my estimation. 2 years later, at Seattle’s, Bumbershoot Arts Fest, was the last time...he has a uniquely, charasmatic ability, pulling the casual fan into his performance. Unfathonable fun & finesse!

Great talent and class act..One of my all time players..
I wonder what he's using to get that pitch drop with when he reaches behind the bridge ??
Can it be a Pitch Pilot that is posted here on another thread ??

I saw him a few months ago. He’s very gracious to his fans, let me take a selfie with him:

Pretty sure it's just a floating strat bridge without the whammy bar in. I do the same thing if I'm too lazy to put the whammy in. Not with the same finesse of course.

The man plays like a god! And here I am in Texas and I have yet to see him. I think it's like when you live in New York you never go to the Statue of Liberty because it's there in town. I need to go see this master of the Telecaster.
