    I had one briefly, but didn't bond with it. Too noisy, and not quite as gainy as I was expecting. A reason might be that they didn't include a cathode bypass capacitor on the preamp tube. Apparently, the 5f1 schematic doesn't have this cap, but many think it might be a mistake, since at the time most champs had it.

    There are a couple available from Canada on Reverb.com. Does that mean they make a 110V -120V model now? teza, if you own one can you look inside the back to find the number of input watts required (or amps and voltage, so that I can figure out the watts)?

    I have one and re-housed it into a bigger tweed DIY Deluxe cab.
    with one 10" and one 8" speaker.
    at first it sounded too harsh but mellowed out by swapping one tube, which originally came from my SF Champ.
    Now it sounds just right. loud & proud with gritt. no need for a tone pot on the amp. my Tele does all that.

    nice! Ive been gassing for a champ tweed ever since I found out thats
    what clapton used on the rythm part of layla (thats one of my fav tones)

    whAts odd is all thier other amps are boutique quality and price.
    $1700 for a 5E3, point to point, pine cab laqured tweed, jensen speaker etc;

    never heard of a company that makes both boutique and cheap.

    The original Champ layout didn't show a cathode bypass capacitor on the layout which is a 25uF@25volt capacitor that is soldered in parallel with the 1500k resistor from pin 3 of the preamp tube to ground (probably on the far right hand side of your tag board). It looks like the one chassis picture above has had one added but its hard to tell when viewing on the smart phone.

    This adds some gain/grit at higher volumes and usually increases the volume a bit. It seems that most vintage Champs actually had the capacitor which the majority of other Fender amps show on the schematic so nobody really knows if it was a mistake or if Fender decided to add the capacitor soon after production and just didn't change the schematic.

    From Alamo's pictures it makes me wonder if that empty spot on the board for C7 is already setup to add the bypass cap given the marking for the positive side of an electrolytic cap.
