Joyo American Sound Pedal

I just got one of these pedals for $54 new off Reverb.com and was messing around with it last night in Garageband. On first listen, for the price, this thing is pretty sweet with some nice tones. I have to try it out in my pedal chain into an amp next though to see what it can really do.

Does anyone else on here have one? How do you like it?

When someone has a query on TDPRI about what might be the required bit of kit, the answer will be Deluxe Reverb, Vox Pathfinder or Joyo American Sound. There are lots of enthusiastic users here. I have had mine almost ten years, it gets plenty of use, and has never failed me.

I've used one when I played in a worship setting and liked it. Live, I use a variety of amps now - 77 Princeton, DRRI or a Tone King Imperial, depending on the venue - but I bought a used American Sound pedal that I've used a few times on silent stages and carry it in case one of the amps craps out. I think I gave $20 bucks for it, money well spent.

I'd say the American Sound is one of the most universally beloved pedals on TDPRI. I liked mine so much I tracked down a used Tech 21 Blonde (circuit the AS is based on). The sweeps are a little different, but I was able to dial in the exact same tones between the two of them. The Blonde has the benefit of being able to turn off the cab sim if needed.

I have the Harley Benton -branded version but it's the same pedal.
And the verdict? It's great! It can do most of the sounds I'd ever require.
Now, does that stop the GAS? Not in the slightest!

I use mine to boost my small SE amp into breakup at a reasonable sound level.

yeah, i've had one for a few years now. it's usually always on, placed last in the chain as i basically consider it to be the input to my amp. i'm playing through a vht special 6 which has only got one volume and one tone, so the AS gives me really useable tweakability. it really is the best 20 euros i've ever spent on musical gear.

Its a great pedal. Ive collected the whole series except for the Marshall one, but the AS is the most versatile and useful. It records great, and its a great thing to have if your amp goes out on a gig.
In front of my Carr, its kinda superfluous, but its really useful into a more Brit flavored amp to make it more Fendery.
I've had the AC Tone one longer than the AS, and its great but not as versatile as the AS, but if I wanna record a Tom Petty sounding part, it does the job. Same for the Cali Sound, it does one thing well, which is turn the Carr into a creamy sounding, mid rich sustainy thing. I just got the new Orange one but Ive yet to try it out. Ive held off on the Marshall one because I havnt bonded with any Marshall in a Box pedal Ive tried. But I may have to get one just to say I have em all.

I have the Marshall-flavored one and use it for DI home recording of bass parts. At low gain settings, to my ear, it sounds really good with my Squier P strung with chrome flats. It has earned its place; $40 well spent.

It's an excellent, inexpensive backup, which weighs a lot less, than a spare amp......

I have two. The first I bought for my duo gigs. I use it as a clean boost or as an OD, with a jazzbox or an acoustic. I like all the controls on them.
I have also accidentally discovered that when set right, they work great for slide guitar offering more sustain than many OD pedals while not getting too loud.
As an ONLY OD pedal for electric guitar..? Seem to get a bit nasty fast as you move up the gain.

I have an AS. And an AC, and a Brit and an Extreme. Want to get a Cali. Other posters have it right: the AS is the most versatile. I have the others to do their one certain thing. I highly recommend the AS. It also works well for direct recording. I’ve been experimenting with the Flamma IR box for that as well. No conclusion yet.

I've done both. Usually an amp though. Through the PA with the acoustic sometimes.

Yep.
Run mine in parallel with an AC-Tone (no prizes for guessing what that mimics) into an acoustic amp For home playing. My valve amps are sitting idle.

I store my Joyo AS in the back of whatever Combo amp I'm using at a gig- as a 'backup amp' into PA.
( I once used a bandmates AS for this, years ago, when my BJ died, right before a gig!)

I originally bought mine to 'correct' the sound ( really, add mids/ improve EQ) of one of my amps. But a speaker change took care of that.
But great to have around.
