So I've been using an American Sound as my 'clean-ish amp sim' to go straight into the PA at church and to record at home.

It sounds great clean, and I've been able to dial in some great Fender-like tones. However, when I use my drive pedals, it gets a little buzzy/hairy. I use a Butah, Jet Drive, and OCD.

Anyone have tips for getting a good drive sound? I did try lowering the drive on all the pedals, but then the OD gets a little thin. I also turned off the EP Booster when using the Joyo. The Butah actually sounds pretty good, but that pedal is so damn smooth it comes as no surprise.

I've never tried it, so I can't help much, but it seems like people usually pair an overdrive with a speaker simulator when going direct. Are you going straight from an overdrive to a DI box or are you putting a speaker sim before the DI?

I've used both the AS and the Sansamp Blonde it's based on. My suggestion is to turn down the output (not the gain!) on the dirt pedals. What was happening to me is that the high level coming out of the dirt pedal was pushing the AS into distortion based on the hot input. Pushing a boost into a clean AS is a good sound, but pushing an already distorted signal can add ugly overtones.

Well it's my understanding that the Joyo is based on V1 of the SansAmp 'Blonde'. So it's supposed to have some speaker sim built in.

I'll try lowering the volume like mentioned!

^ this actually seems to help quite a bit. I'm going through board > Joyo > a Behringer interface > Shure SE215 headphones and it sounded much less 'woofy' when I lowered the volume.

It's kinda reverse of what I'm used to since I usually do more volume/less gain to overdrive my amps.

The Joyo is my church setup since I'm going direct in, so I'll give it a go this weekend going into the system there

The tech 2- blonde had a button to turn the speaker simulation on and off. My Joyo doesn't have that button, I have always assumed it didn't have the speaker sim

I use the Joyo Ultimate Drive into the American S. for some solo parts.
note the UD gain is high up but the level is way down, as it does have lots on tap

I use the American Sound as a direct in, and I'm pretty sure it has an always-on speaker simulator. I've recently put a Mooer Blues Mood in front of it and am pretty happy with it. The Blues Mood is a Blues Driver clone with the Keeley mod. I use the level to put it at unity with my clean sound.

Yeah the V1 of the Tech21 SansAmp pedals didn't have a speaker simulation defeat switch either, and I'm fairly positive these are clones of the V1 Blonde.

Yeah I'm noticing that with the EP Booster off and the Volumes down on my drive boxes, I'm getting a clearer drive sound. Not so woofy.

The best thing is.... there's no one who can rule what's good or not.
it's all in your ears - just listen & feel.

Totally. I just know there's quite a few dudes out there getting good tones out of this little pedal, and was hoping I could get some insight. So far, with the advice given, it's sounding good!

Yep - I'm using one next week for the first time with no opportunity to really play with it beforehand, so this thread comes at a perfect time for me. So far I've only had it in my gig bag as a back-up in case of amp trouble.

Nice. Let us know how it goes

I'm leading Worship from electric for youth group Sunday night. I plan to use the new settings.

I found these two on the net, and I gotta say, they sound really good.
