I just read an interview with Joni Mitchell in Macleans magazine: http://www.macleans.ca/society/the-interview-joni-mitchell/

Q: Speaking of which, you’ve been smoking since age nine—which is its own unhealthy addiction. Ever tried to stop?

A: It is a clarity drug for me. If I couldn’t smoke, that would take away my attention. I would be scattered.

    Smoking since nine? Impressive.

Who would have played Charles Mingus? Chris Brown?

I think you'll find that was Carole King, hence the original

You get a pass, but you'd think RS could get her name right ;)

When the Coen brothers wanted to make my life story into an action movie we were going along there pretty good, until they said they wanted to cast Brad Pitt as me. I put the quietus on that in a hurry. If they can't cast Chris Hemsworth as me, we're done talking. I'm willing to go with Chris, since after me he's been voted the sexiest man in the world. Brad Pitt? He's gettin' too old to play me. Besides, first thing you know Angelina would be trailing around after me wanting to make me some biscuits or something. Besides that, I've always heard ol' Brad was a conceited little twig, I sure as hell don't want someone already known to be conceited trying to pretend to be me. Just wouldn't look good. Ya follow?!

    THANK YOU JONI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd still love to hear a "live" attempt of a Joni Mitchell tune, Help Me comes to mind. To set in stone why Taylor Swift could never portray Joni.

And the live attempt should only be her and a guitar.

I love Joni Mitchell's music. Do I think this would be a good movie? Nope.
I didn't think john boy walton made a good Hank Jr.
I think Lou Diamond Phillips did okay as Valens
but gary busey was not good as the boy from lubbock.

A taylor swift biopic of joni would probably at least bump record sales for joni, but more likely the sales would got to Taylor singing 'a case of you'....

the thing that would bum me out the most about this movie would be that they'd sanitize Joni's life and that would suck...

I want someone to really show her as she actually is... which means it will be an arthouse movie like the bukowski movie.

As she said in the article, "It's just a lot of gossip, you don't have the great scenes." I take that to mean that there's no real story arc dying to be told here, just a rehash of the bit and pieces of lore we've already heard about the era umpteen times. Reminds me of the travesty that the CBGB movie was.
