I saw them by chance in Cologne sometime around 1998-99. It was a huge city wide festival called PopCon and these guys were on a smallish stage in a quiet corner off on their own, making music like this

I was completely sucked in, immediately. They had it all! The playing, the energy, blues + noise + absolute onstage lunacy and crowd involvement. I've been a fan ever since and they're a permanent presence in my playlists. I often play a kind of heavy boogie groove thing based on the Blues Explosion in my head.

Greyhound Remix was blaring continuously in my college dorm many moons ago. Good stuff.

Oh yeah baby, that riff. Man, is this band one of the best ever or what? I love their work with RL Burnside "A Ass Pocket of Whiskey".

Fans of Jon Spencer should also check out his other band Boss Hog:

I’ve been curious about them since I heard that Burnside album he did with them, but I don’t know where to start with their discography. Any recommendations?

I would say that depends a lot on your taste in music and tolerance for noise. There's a sort of three album run in their catalog from Orange -> Now I Got Worry -> Acme that would give a good overview of their musical directions. They're all available at YouTube and Spotify, so just give em spin

Was this instigated from the theremin thread? The vid posted there is pure rock and roll lunacy.

Seen Boss Hog a couple times, Jon Spencer once at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest. I'd say it's impossible for him to put on a less than stellar performance. Attitude aplenty.

I randomly picked up their self titled album with money earned from my first job many years ago.

On first listen, it was jarring, offensive... not for me. But on SECOND listen, I heard more that I liked, I was drawn in... started to love it. Then I heard Plastic Fang, then Acme and I've been a big fan since.

I got Now I Got Worry and Blur’s Modern Life is Rubbish on the same day when I was in high school and was never the same again.

This was on the juke at the bar I hung out at when it came out back in the '90s- it always got several plays a night.
