I love Tommy Smothers. even saw them live once....
The Smothers Brothers were a big part of my youth. Great comedy and musical talents
The Who blowing up their gear -- and Tommy Smothers' acoustic guitar -- must have been quite a moment for 1967 television audiences:
I remember watching this on TV when I was in high school. my old man fell out of his chair
Outstanding deadpan response, Tommy.
I remember watching Yo-Yo Man when very young. I loved it.
I got to meet Dick Smothers (actually, just say hello to) when the Smothers Brothers appeared with the Ft Worth Symphony Orchestra....my brother was a cellist with them, and I wasn't going to be able to attend the performance.....so I went to rehearsal with my brother. I was just sitting out in the empty auditorium, when Dick strolled out to listen to Tommy playing guitar with the orchestra. I realized he was "working", so I didn't want to disturb him, but as he walked up the aisle, I said hello. He didn't know me from Adam.....he may have assumed I was maintenance or something, but he said hello back. That was it.....nothing special.
I always LOVED the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.
"Laugh-In" was pretty amazing too!
Tom and Dick gave a show at the local opera house.
The rider specified SM-58 mics. The house had none. So I supplied. Somewhere around here I have a Tommy Smothers autographed SM-58.
Man, I know I’m old but I sure miss that!
Tommy introduces Officer Judy
Does anyone remember the film, Breakfast at Tiffany's? There's a party scene in it, with a lot of "fast cut" one-liners and quips. I never realized until I saw that film that the "party" in Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In was taken directly from that. Sometimes genius inspires genius.
fun facts: Bob Einstein became Super Dave Osborne.... Super Dave Osborne (Bob Einstein) was the brother of Albert Einstein who became Albert Brooks.
I was very good friends with a woman who dated Tommy Smothers. She had some funny stories about Tommy. (not where he was a jerk, just where he was very funny and a character)
