    I've always been a H & O's fan.

I grew up an hour west of Philadelphia and have always loved the Philly Soul that permeates much of their music.

But, it's pretty much been the "Daryl" show, with John filling in the necessary vocal/guitar parts.

However, in recent years, John has embarked on a new road (although still doing shows with Daryl) with acoustic guitar in hand.

I found this tasty youtube sample of one of the H & O classic's that John puts through a different spin.

    I was impressed!

    Who knew!?

John has a few other videos that are posted youtube that showcase his folk/blues fingerstyle/vocal ala John Hurt and Blind Blake.

Apparently this is where he started before meeting Daryl and heading to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame...

Very nice, and Guthrie is tasteful on his break, as always!

We knew! He's always been the real deal, just not out front of a band.

Apart from being a child of the 70's/80's and hearing (and liking) Hall and Oates (so no real knowledge) I often wondered why they never split up with Darryl doing the normal superstar "Solo" effort.

Given he was by far the lead singer etc.

I think having watched Darryl's house a few times that it might be that Darryl knows and appreciated the songwriting and "band" aspect with him.

Anyway, I hope that's it as they both seem talented and on the face of it nice people.

Huge fan of LFDH. and miss it.

Great idea and it was just about the coolest thing on the internet, imo.

I've been to Daryl's club in Pawling, NY... also cool and it closely resembles the set at the house.

Kinda like being able to go to the house for an evening. Check it out when things get safe, again.

    Anyway:

I believe from what I've read, etc., that Daryl & John have been very close friends since the beginning.

John lived with Daryl and his first wife in Philly (their 3rd floor bedroom) and in NYC with Daryl and Sara.

They were hippies, and hippies did that kinda stuff.

I remember reading an interview with Daryl and he said that he and Sara slept on a mattress on the floor for many years... long after H & O were stars.

(Actually, LFDH was somewhat communal... they shared music and food in a rural environment. Inviting outside musicians and chefs in to share, create, eat and have fun.)

It looks like and Daryl and John have maintained their individuality without offending each other.

They both seem to be sensible, reasonable and kind people.

And, they are both smart enough to realize that their friendship and partnership, when working together, is potent and strong.

    It also has been lucrative.

    Imo.

Not every duo team is like Wham. John is a super talent. I mean, who you gonna put next to Daryl Hall? He better be freaking good.
