ive been listening to his second book about the LA scene from 82-87. After enjoying his first book so much I had to get this one as well. What a diverse bunch of bands occupying the same space and time.
    Just a few of many

Hard to say that X is under appreciated, but they were soooo influential!

A very underappreciated scene IMHO - X is always on the top of my list. Saw them at the Black Cat in DC in 2013. They looked a little haggard but still sounded great. Billy Zoom certainly knows his way around the fretboard. And can DJ Bonebrake can play.

Cesar Rosas is a phenonal guitarist and the rest of Los Lobos just rock. Great band.

I'd like to add the Blasters - I know they had a lot of collabrative efforts with X through the years. I saw them at the Bayou in Georgetown in the early 80's. The Bayou was the 930 club before there was a 930 club.

The different chapters are authored by folks from the scene. John Doe, Jane Wiedlen, Mike Ness, Phil Alvin, etc. if you do they audio books they narrate their chapters respectively. They give you the scene, the music is second to what was happening in this narrative.

    I highly recommend the books.

I missed X a few months ago when they rolled through with the Violent Femmes.
This bill is later this month and I am quite intrigued
X opening for Squeeze is a show I did not know I needed to see, but heck yeah!

A friend and I were out for breakfast a year or so ago and we noticed a group of guys at another table who looked like they were lacking sleep and had to be road dogs. As we were leaving, I stopped at their table and said, "OK, you guys must be a band who are you?" And the leader said "We're the John Doe Band." as he reached up to shake my hand. They were playing in town at a little club that night, so we went. They rocked the joint. I'll have to check out the books.

A seven-band bill? How long is the show? How long are their sets?

Nah, just a couple of bands per date. Squeeze is headlining while X is playing the dates that are marked with an *

Oh. That's very different. Never mind.

I'd definitely prefer to catch one of the shows with X then.
