Yes indeed! I'm debating with myself about the 59 esquire Joe Strummer signature and that is not very punk-y, although way cool

Congrats! I have an AV64 in white blonde and it’s incredible. My two cents, it’s far too nice of a guitar (in any finish) to refinish as a Strummer tribute - and I say this as a massive fan of Joe and the Clash. A Squier Classic Vibe or Partscaster would be far more affordable, just as modifiable and, if you weren’t happy with how it came out, is a much cheaper bet to lose. YMMV

    Thanks!
You are right, I don't plan to have it refinished à la Joe, I will keep it as is and play the heck out of it.
I will keep an eye on the CS Esquire though

Get the '64, & I love me some Clash.

Ghetto Defendant came on my player the other day. Would have loved to hear the Mescaleros dust that one off live.

The Holiday Esquire getting used by the lot.

Seems like with both Fender and Squier releasing "Esquire" models recently, there could be a possibility it is offered in the Squier version, in which case I might even have a go at one.

Besides, if I owned Fender, I would have marketing people all over sites like ours. Information from the consumer at your fingertips.

Thanks for posting this. Ghetto defendant is one of my absolute favourite songs, hands down. Cool video with the 1st May Esquire, that's the one I am waiting from the CS!

UPDATE: got an email from Fender, it will be limited to 60 pieces and release date is scheduled for the end of March.

60 pieces? I can't afford a CS guitar made in such small quantity, it will cost 10-15K. That's my guess.

Not to pee in anyone's cornflakes but what makes Joe Strummer so special that he warrants a CS guitar?

It is the most anti-punk think in the world, that's for sure! But a 59 Esquire is a thing of beauty and I would have bought it in a heartbeat, unfortunately being limited to 60 pieces makes it crazy expensive.

Concerning your question, he may not have been the most technical player (I know, I know..) but he sureley has been one of the most important frontmen in rock history and one of the coolest, so why not?
It is very personal of course, but I think that he deserves it. Even is probably he would have never accepted to be part of this marketing craziness. Just my opinion.

The irony of the reported CS $$ copy gtr is that the Clash were a very 'proleteriat' type of band.

Rage Against The Latrine comes to mind representing that genre too.
    You know, against The Man.

The Clash will henceforth be known as,
    "The Cash."

I get that but Cropper, Bloomfield, Robben Ford have never had a CS Tele not to mention any of the icons of the R&B, funk, country who played Teles. (I realize Cropper had a signature guitar from another maker.)
It just seems odd to me. Then again they're only making 60 so they may not expect a big market although it's price tag will reflect that. Cha-ching! It's all about the Benjamins.

No doubts that there are other people deserving a CS signature guitar more than Joe: the names you listed are simply incredible players, the best of the best.

The only reason I can think of is that maybe Fender tried to do this and got a negative answer, just like it (apparently) happened with Springsteen and Keith Richards.
I think that Joe would have said no, maybe his family appreciate the Benjamins more than others!
