Music to play after coming home from the meat packing plant in Gary, Indiana. I've been meaning to learn some Jimmy Reed tunes.
Jimmy Reed - "High and Lonesome"
Jimmy Reed - "Ain't That Lovin' You"
'Bright lights' was one of the first songs I learned on guitar back in ~1968.
I love JR.
Always dug his languid vocal phrasing, and his wife singing behind him.
jimmy reed is very much a world onto himself.
My favorite blues artist (though Slim Harpo is mighty close behind).
Perhaps my favorite track of his:
That is what a band is supposed to sound like.
Baby What You Want Me To Do .....
When Soul was Soul.
They're all good, but that one is really good.
Glad to see someone likes good music still. I learn how to play guitar off of Jimmy Reed records, years ago.
Just heard Boz Scaggs do a song called "Down In Virginia" (it's on youtube), today.
He's channeling Jimmy Reed, all the way.
I love JR!
You listen to Jimmy Reed this first time, and you go, "Wow, that stuff is so simple, what is the big deal?"
The you find yourself singing one of the tunes--non-stop--as you go about your day.
Then you have to hear more.
Then you start saying, "How does he get that sound? That feel?"
That's when you're hooked.
Jimmy & Mama Reed
Listen to the groove when the vocals start...BAM!
Amazingly insistent feel...
