Was not with the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Not on the Vaughan Bros album (as fantastic as that album is). Not during his solo career.

Jimmie’s best solo came in 1993, as a guest on Junior Brown’s album Guit With It, specifically on the song “My Wife Thinks You're Dead.” Curiously, the didn’t release the version with Jimmie’s solo on the album cut. I’m not sure the whole story, but you had to buy the separate single to get the version of that song with Jimmie on the first solo. The album version had Junior playing guitar on the first solo (rather than Jimmie), and his lap steel on the second solo. Seems like, given the climate in 1993, highlighting Vaughan as a guest would have been a marketing bonus. Anyway, here it is, and I love it.

Jimmie’s solo is at the 1:00 mark. I love his shout at the end.

I love JLV.
He’s a huge influence on my playing, and I unabashedly steal licks from him from all his eras.
I can’t argue *much* with you on your supposition here...but the Fabulous Thunderbirds song “Extra Jimmies” is amongst my favorites.

Not even close. Full Time Lover or Dengue Woman Blues.

My CD version of Guit With It has Jimmie's solo. The video version did not.

My favourite JV solo is here, starting from 2:12. (Another part, but no real solo starts at 1:10).

I guess we all have our favorites. Mine is his playing on Good Texan. His phrasing is perfect-succinct answers to his vocal lines. Then his guitar just elbows the vocal out of the way for the solo. I love that little string rake at 2:39 followed by the perfectly placed lick over the one measure of 2/4.

The attitude of the guitar matches the lyric. What more do you need?

One of my favorites from JLV and the birds...

JLVs amp is definitely in the sweet spot on this one.

That guitar looks just like my Jimmie Vaughan Strat, which I loved! ( got one the first year or so that they came out)

Sadly stolen, a few years later. Comfy neck, great sound and a ' bargain '50's Stratocaster!' Love Jimmie!

Two stellar Jimmie solos are on Lou Ann Barton’s Read My Lips record. Both old chestnuts that Jimmie grew up playing.

And, both are in his T-Birds/pre-Lightnin’ Hopkins obsession style

But -

This song and all his rhythm playing on What’s The Word is what changed the 80’s for me, and how I viewed guitar playing...
